Hello Sheaffer fans-

Yesterday in the mail I got an auction I won. I only lucked out because it was titled "Sheaffer's lifetime fountain pen & pencil set 14K nib". It's a Crest Tuckaway, the second style, no clip, with pencil, in golden brown stripe. If anybody else noticed the same pen in black, but working, sell quickly on the PT GB, I paid nowhere near that much, but more than a vac-fil repair costs.

For anybody who needs a photo of the model, try the penlovers Sheaffer collection page, and scroll to the Tuckies in the middle.

What I at first was afraid was really bad brassing at the cap top is a hole. It's brassed a big spot, and through the brass is a hole. As far as I can feel and see, there is no inner cap. Are the cap threads in one piece with the inner caps, or separate parts? Is an inner cap flat at the top, or tapered just like the cap? Feeling around with a stick, I can feel an edge below (holding the cap with opening up) the threads. From there it feels like it's all cap.

I told the seller that I like everything except that she missed the hole in the cap and that renders it useless as a portable pen. I said it that way to give her a chance to offer something to address it, as opposed to really complaining and making a demand, but she wrote that she hopes I'm still satisfied. *facepalm*

So, considering that these were made for around two years, and that Crest caps are more fun than the striped ones, and that gold stripe is more fun than black, and that there seem to be fewer pencils than pens, should I be patient for parts or some kind of repair? A spare cap seems rare, and parts for inside would seem to involve somebody having destroyed, intentionally or accidentally, a similar cap or a plastic Triumph Tucky one. Those caps are the same on the inside, right? For repair without parts, all I've thought off is sealing the hole with shellac or wax, or some kind of solder that can hold gold plating. I think the plating alone would cost more than a good pen.

sorry no pic
Well, the brassing is the size of a white dot, and the hole is as big as a couple breather holes.
thanks for any ideas
