Hi folks,

I just received a Valiant set that I won on eBay a week or so ago. I bid on it pretty much sight unseen because the sole picture showed the pen with the cap on. The only thing I knew was that the nib was 14k. However, when I took a look at this baby it turns out to have what looks like a factory broad stub - a pleasant surprise indeed. It also seems flat enough to even be an italic nib. The writing sample isn't so indicative of the line variation because since this pen doesn't fill, dipping it didn't seem to provide enough flow to get a full line on the downstroke. Take a look.

Anyone know how common these nibs are?

$25? great buy for $25- even if it had the run of the mill triumph nib. I actually use an early 1950s Touchdown Valiant set (FP and Pencil) everyday at work. I love the things- very 1950s looking, and nice writers all around. They're quite robust too and stand up well to daily use. The green is a nice color for sure too- although I'll admit Persian Blue (and the pastel blue in the Snorkel line) are my favorites.

My avatar is, in fact, just that Valiant Touchdown set- great pens, I have to get some more eventually.
