I saw this earlier today on ebay.
I am curious as to if you guys think it is a fake. If it is, then my research is going well. If not then I had better be more careful before buying on ebay!!

Yup it's fake!! Looks like they pulled the pen before it sold. With the one fuzzy nib picture you may have had a hard time telling but the last picture made it clear!

I emailed the seller and asked if she new it was a fake. She didn't and pulled the auction immediately.

I have seen so many Chinese copies of MB pens, a colleage even went to Shanghai on business and brought back 4 MB copies that he paid £6 for, with boxes!
They are exceptional and without a genuine MB side by side then most people could be fooled.
What is surprising is that people bid high amounts for something that is worth so little

How could you all tell it was fake?

The cap bands are wrong and the nib is way wrong, and you never
see "Iridium" engraved on a genuine nib.

The bidding price as well. But most of all is the iridium nib.

The nib may not be MB, but again, how can you tell the rest of the pen is fake? The cap band looks EXACTLY like the cap band on my MB 144. However, my clip doesn't have anything engraved on it.

Look that the fit and finish. Even the blind cap on the cap itself is way off. If you blow up the photos you can see the roughness / sanding marks on the clip. And the barrel band is way off.
I think after a person handles lots of MB's over the years the fakes almost scream out to the experienced eye. I am certainly not the most experienced MB collector on this board, but I do own 17 and have collected them since 1988 and the fakes that I have seen are just not that good at all.

Sadly, ebay is awash with fake/imitation Montblancs.
I sell these beautiful writing instruments for an authorised dealer and we see a number of fakes each month.
I understand that there is a dept within MB dedicated to finding fakes and stopping them, however it is a sign of their success that they are worth faking.
So, buyer beware

"Iridium Point Germany" is not on any of Mont Blanc's nibs. That is a dead giveaway.
