I was on vacation in Mexico this week and at a designer duty free shop, I saw a Waterman fountain pen I didn't recognize. The price was $90, and they quickly dropped it to $45 when I started talking to them. It was a plain blue colour with black trim, and felt a lot lighter and less substantial then any other Waterman I've held. I looked at the box, and there was no outer cardboard sleeve, just the blue box with a label on it that only described it as a waterman fountain pen. The box was also a lot thinner than the normal waterman box. It did not come with a piston convertor, but had 2 cartridges.

It was their only Waterman, but they had several Mont Blancs in the $700 range (which they also would have sold at half price).

I didin't buy the pen because there seemed to be too many differences in the feel of the pen and the packaging from the normal Watermans, I thought it might be a counterfeit.

Anyone have some thoughts on what this pen might have been?

Does the pen you describe look like any of these?

I don't see it there, I've been looking at various sites and I can't find it.

The overall shape is fairly straight like a Hemisphere but wider in diameter, it's not bulge shaped like a Carene. As i said, it comes in a solid blue color. It is plasticy, and the blue is similar to phileas colour but solid, not marbled. It feels like a similar material to the philias, but without the brass tube to weight it, so it has a cheap feel.

At the mid line, it has a double thin metal ring.

Maybe Waterman made/makes pens for various markets in various places. Maybe a quick e-mail to Waterman themselves with a picture. Beyond that I have no idea. Sorry.
