The Running Deer series was ran between 1931 and 1933. They came in larger and small bases of Black, Brown, Touqouise and Cream. Metal sockets seem to be of the snorkel era but, for this short time in the depression there were metal sockets. They are very thin and did not hold up well. These issued at $3.50 to $10 and are worth $50 to $150 today.

Roger,
Nice bases. Is the middle base the brown or cream color?

Eddie;

Brown, I don't happen to own a cream one - yet.

I'll admit I don't like these as much as the previous desk bases I've seen Roger W. present. It's a personal taste thing for me I guess- but they don't have the flair that some of the previous bases have (a moose is a tough act to follow!). I have no quarrel with the function or the quality at all- they look like solid, heavy bases, and I like a rock-solid base. But the looks- I don't know the deer just don't do it for me.

These bases are from the streamline era when everything was suddenly all chromed... on a fashionalble executive's desk, there'd be a chromed ashtray, desk lighter, lamp, clock, pen set, stamp holder, letter opener, and possibly even the telephone handset. Bling!

Check out some other streamline era stuff!

Thanks for more great pictures, Roger!

Very nice indeed!

Ray;

I appreciate your comment immensely. Of the hundreds of bases in the range I am collecting not all of them do it for me either. It took me the longest time to get the hunting dog figural. He's a mangy looking hound though, there is usually decent demand for it (more than I wanted to pay to get it). I got lucky to get one at a fairly low price so I finally acquired it. Many of the smaller marble pieces aren't terribly exciting but, then they usually come at a decent price. I'm glad you've been enjoying the series.

Roger, how did you date these? Nice bases. Below is a similar enamel scottie dog base. I think I also have one in black, but it's missing the socket.
