Full Version: Any newbies looking for a flex nibbed pen?

I recently purchased a Waterman 3v with a fine, flex nib, and as of last night, I decided that I need to get rid of it. The reason is that I am currently trying to retrain myself to write with a cursive italic hand (as in "Write Now" by Getty/Dubay.) It has proven difficult for me to then also learn to write with a Copperplate/Spencerian hand. The hand positions are different, the letters are drawn differently and I am finding that I am switching back and forth between the two different styles as I write. Believe me, it's not pretty!

With that in mind, then, I have decided to give away my vintage Waterman 3v fountain pen to someone on FPN. It is NOT a mint condition pen; the finish has a couple of small blemishes, and the 3v is not rare collectible model, anyways. But the pen is clean, was recently restored, and has a fine, flexible nib.

The only condition I have for giving this pen away is this: I want this pen to go to someone who will use it. I DON'T want to give it to someone to be a part of their massive collection. I DON'T want to give it to someone who is then going to turn around and put it on eBay. I would like this pen to go to someone who has never used a flex nib pen before, and would really like to learn to write in a Spencerian type manner. I'll even give you a copy of a beginners book on Copperplate that I picked up from my local bookstore.

So if there are any newbies out there like myself, who need a flex-nibbed pen to learn on, let me know. This pen really deserves better than to sit unused in my desk drawer. smile.gif

BTW, I am posting this in the Penmanship forum, rather than the Classifieds forum, because I didn't want to be inundated with e-mails from folks who just want a free pen. I really do hope that someone will get some good use out of my Waterman.

I have sent you a PM, and would like to be considered for this pen. I am a user, and a writer of snails. smile.gif I would love to have a pen with real flex.

Thank you!

I've never witten with a flex nib -- in fact, right now my pen of choice is the Parker 51, as far away as you can get. My handwriting is something I'd describe as a lousy version of Palmer (which I am working on improving) executed with a 35-40 degree angle between pen and paper.

I'd take you up on your offer except that I could only guarantee that I would fill the pen with black Quink and give it a try -- and it might end up standing idle in the frog if it weren't my cup of tea. Therefore, someone like Jane is probably a better recipient. I'll find a flex to experiment with in an antique store eventually.

Hi,

I PMed a little earlier than my friend Jane, but did not post here.

I do not have any flex nibs yet. Since I am a student, I use bottles and bottles of ink. I have all of my pens filled and with me at all times.

Hi Guys! Thanks to all you for responses. It was not my intention to create a competitive environment here with my offer, so please let there be no hard feelings between you all over this pen. biggrin.gif

Dillon was actually the first one to respond to my post, so I have already PM'd back to him about the pen.

No hard feelings from me -- like I said, a good stiff nib is more my speed anyhow smile.gif
