I picked up a University fountain pen from eBay a few weeks ago. Set about restoring it the last week. Got mostly everything cleaned up as much as possible, still have to order a new sac for it. I'll try to get some pictures up tomorrow. But it's a red striped pattern, has a gold colored clip, wide cap band, and lever. It also has a visualated section and a steel nibbed that says "steel iridium tip made in usa".

Hi there,

Very nice - the striations are certainly attractive, and the pen looks to be in good shape.

I'm afraid I'm responsible for starting a thread about a very different "University" pen a while back: http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...showtopic=20336

Toward the end of the thread, there used to be an image of a pen that (if memory serves) was very much like yours. That image is no longer showing up, regrettably, but the posted description of the nib markings seems to tally with your pen's.

I suspect that the name "University" appeared on more than a few pens, third-tier and otherwise, over the years. Yours looks like a nice example.

Cheers,

Jon

The striations on the barrel are kind of neat.

A bit more information was found. I got in contact with Kudzu who has a pen from the same manufacturer. It's definitely a third or fourth tier pen, which is probably going to make it harder to find anything out about it. For posterity sake I'll say I just ordered a #16 sac for it to resac. I think this pen is going to be a good candidate for a brown paper bag smoothing (something I've never done).

Hi, Penguin - Yes, our pens come from the same manufacturer. Your's is much more attractive in the nice red. My brown striated one is much less eye-catching, but I like it, too. Your's cleaned up very nicely so when I get around to re-saccing mine, I'll have to polish it up as well. Thanks for contacting me back channel to compare pen photos.
