Hello,

I received a Visconti Ragtime last week. It has a steel nib which I find a little too stiff. Is there anything I can do for this. I know that other models have a gold nib which is softer.

My questions:
Is this a screw in nib?
Can it be changed for a gold one?
Are gold nib midi sized as soft as maxi sized nib?

I really like this pen, the body, piston filler and ink windows and trim are very cool. But I don't like stiff nibs... At worst I probably will be trading or selling it.

The Mids only come with steel nibs, I believe. At least, this is what Visconti told me when I called them to enquire about a repair. Only the Maxs come with a gold nib.

They used to be made with gold nibs. Some cellulose Ragtime comes with gold nib. As for the Midi's I think they also use to make them with gold nibs.

It may not be the material. I have a Pericles with a steel nib and it's as lovely a floater as the gold nibs.

Is the pericle as stiff or springy then the Maxi's?
Ghost Plane
My Pericles is just a hair stiffer and just a touch less floaty, but pretty close and I've had two of each. The shape and size of the nibs are pretty darn close, don't know if that's the reason for it.

The nib on the Ragtime is smaller then the Maxi and the shape is different.

The circumference is smaller on the ragtime, and the nib is 5-7 mm shorter (total) then the maxi. Also it widens at the maximum point to approximitavely the same width and the tip is about 1-2 mm closer then the maxi the the widest point. This probably gives less flex by the shape difference.

Must be it. Pity. I considered adding a Ragtime to my collection, but the Maxi is so good, if they don't write like Van Goghs, better not.
