HELLO
I have a pen with the following words on the barrel:
THE UNIVERSAL PEN
CONWAY STEWART LONDON
NO.580
AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL IT SAYS:made in england. M Y PROBLEM IS THAT I KNOW THIS PEN IS A NO.580 AS IT IS DESCRIBED IN DONAHAYES BOOK.HOWEVER THERE IS NO REFERENCE BY DONAHAYE OR ANYONE ELSE TO A UNIVERSAL PEN NO.580 ANYWHERE THAT I CAN FIND.IN THE listing for Universal pens in all the sites i have checked there is no model no 580.I can,t EVEN find a picture of the no.580 anywhere as well .
Any information is appreciated .sorry for the cluMsy typing.

Jonathan does indeed refer to a Universal 580 on this page recording a couple of colours, though it is obviously one of the rarer model numbers. Unfortunately he has no pictures, though from his description they would seem to date to the late 1930s (as implied by the peaked cap-end and the diamond clip). It is probably one of the 'export only' models, as in the UK price lists the number 580 was reserved for Dinkie models.

The value would depend as much on the general condition and colour as well as the rarity of the model.

Hi Boogit, I have just obtained a pen similar to the one you have described. Black chased rubber with wiggly chased vertical lines. Also can't find out much about it. Wondering if by now you have got more info. Colin
