Hi all, I'm new to the site. Have been looking for a good place to discuss fountain pens, and this looks like one.
As a young physician in training (endocrinology fellow), I write handwritten notes all day. I've always enjoyed nice ballpoint and roller pens, but for some reason never got into fountain pens until recently. I bought my first fountain pen, a Waterman Phileas (blue marble), about one year ago. I really enjoyed using it, to the point where it was the only pen I used. Using a fountain pen makes the notes aspect of work so much better for me. Since then, I purchased a Pilot/Namiki VP (black carbon) and received a Waterman Edson as a gift. Currently I keep the two Waterman pens filled with Florida Blue. The VP I use with either Aurora Black or Private Reserve Black Cherry. After trying a Pelikan M200 the other day, I'm thinking of buying the red demonstrator model as my next purchase.
I don't have a particular type of pen I like best yet. I like fine/scratchy-stiff nibs for writing fast long notes through carbon copies. Then I enjoy switching to pens with smoother, more flexible nibs for when I can take more time and don't need to write through copy paper.
Nice to be a part of what looks like a great forum.

Welcome aboard doc amin. Nice pens you have there.
The M200 has many fans here, myself included. One major asset is the ability to get awesome custom nibs from Richard Binder (no affiliation, just a happy repeat customer) --- stubs, italics, cursive italics, flex, italifines, etc. He does wonderful work, and you can get nibs for the M200 at very reasonable prices.
Anyhow, enjoy the site and we're glad to have you. Any chance of a pic of your pens?

Thanks for the welcome Southpaw. I'm visiting my mother-in-law for the weekend, but when I return home Monday I'll be happy to post a pic or two. Thanks also for the advice about the M200. I think I'm going to go for it.

Enjoy the hi life here, Doc. Guaranteed to reduce the tedium of studying for those boards.

Greetings Amin and welcome to the FPN.
I have an M200 that I am also considering sending to Richard Binder and having him replace the nib with an italic stub of some sort. I had him repair a defective feed on my Waterman Expert II and it writes like a hot knife in butter. It's now so smoooooooth!!
One pen that I use to write through carbons is my Sheaffer Clipper Snorkel, with its silver Triumph nib, which is very rigid, but ideal for writing on carbon paper.
I am sure that you will love it here and find this place very educational and enlightening.

Hi amin and welcome to FPN!

If you want something that will write through carbon copies, you have to try a Triumph-nibbed Sheaffer!

They'll do the job right....
Have fun and thanks for the kind words.

Roger, thanks for the kind welcome!
Mannenhitsu and Maja, thanks for the nice welcome and advice about the Triumph-nibbed Sheaffer. I certainly write through carbons a lot. Last week I picked up a blue Aurora Talentum Rollerball just for this purpose.

Nice pen, amin! Lovely colour.....
Well, the Triumph nibs are found on a variety of vintage Sheaffers, as well as a modern Sheaffer pen (the modern Crest). Jim M (Penhero), moderator of the FPN Sheaffer forum has an excellent article on them here:

Great read there - thanks Maja.
I just got outbid at the very last second on a vintage Triumph Sheaffer on Ebay. Ouch, that hurts!

Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt

Don't worry, amin: there will be more (and better) ones on eBay in the near future...

There are several triumph nibbed snorkels in the marketplace right now!
They are mine. great pens. Fully restored.

I love the whole convenience of a snorkel: twist out the tube, pull back the plunger, one swift depress, count to ten, twist the tube back into place and that's it. No wiping, no need to wipe the nib, no chance of inking fingers.
I don't even worry about the tip of the nib being in the ink, those triumph nibs are so shiny smooth, that the ink just runs off.
Wonderful pens.
