Full Version: Lubricating a piston on a Lamy 2000

Some people have said that you should lubricate the pison on any new Lamy 2000 you get because some of them aren't lubricated at the factory. How does one do this exactly?
Russ
Unscrew the pen at the joint nearest the ink window. Be very careful that the spring-loaded silver retaining clip does not fly out (!). Load a tiny bit of pure silicon grease onto a pointed toothpick, and rub the toothpick in a circular fashion around the inside of the barrel. You will need section sealant on the threads when you reassemble if you wish to avoid leaks.

Both silicon grease and section sealant are available from Tryphon Enterprises. Good materials. I bought mine there.

I wish you success and hope you enjoy your L2K as much as I enjoy mine.

Thanks for the info. Are you sure the section sealant is needed? I have taken the pen apart and put it back together before without before without any apparent leak issues.

I can't argue with success. If it doesn't leak, let good enough alone.

The Lamy 2000 is a great pen, no doubt. Mine didn't show any signs of needing lubrication when new, but the piston did stiffen a little over time. This seems to be addressed by the occasional fill of Noodler's American Eel- blue in my case but no doubt the other colours do the job too.

I should add I've no connection with Noodler's except as a satisfied customer.

Pretty sure no sealant needed, i too have broken-down the pen plenty of times.

I did fill the pen once with Polar Black which is supposed to be lubricating for pistons I think. I don't know if that is up to silicone grease standards.

Anyway, good to know that I can just apply the grease like that. Thanks!

Wow, that just made a huge difference. Finally got around to lubricating this thing. I just used maybe a pinhead-sized bit of grease and now it's extremely smooth compared to before. It must not have been lubricated at all at the factory.

Note that using a single load of Noodler's Polar Black (which I thought was supposed to be lubricating like the eel inks) didn't seem to really do anything.

I've also lubed mine without thread sealant without any trouble.
