The other day I was browsing around a local antique shop and I came across some postcards. I started to look at the fronts of all of them and I happened to run across one with some beautiful handwriting on the back. I became much more interested in the backs of the postcards than the fronts. I started to imagine people writing these and I found myself wondering what type of pen and ink each was written with. I was very surprised with the different colors of ink that were used. Here's a selection of the treasures I came home with.

I love old post cards, too, and have collected a few for both the fronts and writings on the back. More often than not, the writing is very nice and on some, like you've shown, it's downright beautiful. Usually, the messages seem very formal in comparison to the way we write and speak today, and I have to smile when I read them.

Thanks for showing us your cards! (pun intended)

where is that antiques shop? Can you get there on line E, F, or H of the light rail?

I have a couple hundred old postcards, through sort of inheriting them. I think most were sent by or to a family friend and mostly from the first quarter of the 20th century (and we have a few score of unused ones). I'll have to dig them and have a look at the handwriting. We don't really appreciate them much - often thought that was a shame. But now that I think of handwriting...

Assuming you're in Denver... no. It's the Brass Armadillo on I-70 out near Wheatridge. Lots of good stuff there, but I've never had much look looking for pens there. Still, it's fun to browse around.
