I have seen a few Montblancs that the seller states they are authentic, but dont have gold nibs. Does Montblanc do this? I always thought they didnt, but what do I know?...

Here is just one example... This person also is willing to give a full refund... And he/she does not look new to ebay...

Any help?

Thanks and Cheers!

Isn't this one of the platinum plated ones? The nib is gold underneath, but plated platinum. An example http://www.montblanc.com/products/black_re...ozart.05029.php

The nib on the starwalker posted on ebay doesn't seem to be like the one on the starwalker on the MB official site. And as far as I know all of MB FPs have gold nibs. So the one you spoted on ebay is a fake according to me. Check this out:

Thats what I thought, I have a few that are platinum plated, but it still says 14 or 18k gold. Not iridium...
Thanks for the help...
I just thought it was strange that this person has 100% feedback, and is saying its authentic...

Actually, many of the sellers selling pens on ebay have no clue of what they have. And most of the fakes can easily deceive an ignorant person..... There was a post saying here that the feedbacks can also be fiddled with to increase the % positive feedback. So be cautious when you buy pens especially MBs (as they are claimed to be the most replicated pen brand) on ebay!

The posted example is a fake.

Maybe report to the seller that has a fake. You may ask additional pictures. You can check the details of the pen. Usually you can spot fakes by looking at quality of built and details.

I'm far from an expert on MB and I wouldn't be able to spot this as a fake on my own, but I wouldn't bid on it in general principle -- I won't bid on items where the seller can't manage to take in-focus pictures. Sure, maybe they're just completely incompetent with a camera and it's really genuine -- but I have no way to know, and another one will come along sooner or later (probably sooner), so why gamble in this price range? For a $20 or $30 snorkel that probably needs work despite claims to the contrary, I'll gamble, but for $250 you can figure out how to focus the camera. smile.gif

Historically, Mont Blanc did have steel nibs, using them in their lower-cost lines. In the 1970s, they used steel nibs in the Carrera and Noblesse (aka SL or Slimline) lines.

Yep, that's a fake MB nib.

MB did make steel nibs during WW2 and I think some of their lower quality pen lines after the war, but the Starwalker has a rhodium plated gold nib.
