I have this sage green Sheaffer with a touchdown filler, but I have not been able to identify what Sheaffer called this pen. I have searched penhero.com but did not find it. sad.gif Who knows what it is?

Maja
Hmmm, you're right....It looks like a Sheaffer Statesman (TD-filler, plastic cap and body, open two-tone nib and what appears to be a 1/4" cap band).... but it's missing the White Dot! ohmy.gif

I wonder if this is one of those cap switcheroos, or something else....
PenHero
Is it slender like a Snorkel? If so, then it is a Sovereign TM.

Maja's right though. A sovereign has no dot and Sheaffer's on the clip right? A smooth clip should have a white dot.

The pen is a TM size. The nib is not a Feathertouch. It is a dual-tone, straight line "Sheaffer's" imprint, 14K, and it is noticeably slender in appearance.

I believe the Soverign TM had a smooth clip and no white dot, as opposed to a Soverign Snorkel, which has a "Sheaffer's" clip and no white dot. This is the same as that one I sold a while back here. We scratched our heads about it, but re-reading Jim's article I see it more clearely.

Jim, since this is such a source of confusion, maybe you can add a line clarifying that it is a smooth clip, as the Soverign section of the TM article just says "Gold filled innerspring clip".

Yep - I'll make that update.
Maja
So it's a Touchdown Sovereign TM with a non-Feathertouch nib? unsure.gif

Arrrrrggghhhh---Sheaffer nomenclature! wallbash.gif

I went to David Nishimura's site and looked at the chart he had for the various TD and Snorkel models (chart here) but I didn't see the non-late model (can we call this the "early" model???) Touchdown Sovereign TM on the chart, but it is definitely in Jim's article....

There are actually two TM Sovereigns - one with a White Dot on an engraved stainless cap. The other is a plastic cap pen with no White dot. Same two tone open nib on both. The nib is not a Feathertouch. The metal cap TM was not widely known. I have one coming here to be photo'd for the article.

Oh, OK...It's just that in your article, you said both types had a "Conventional 14 karat gold Feathertouch two-tone platinum masked nib, stamped "SHEAFFER'S" over "Feathertouch... ".

Yep - and the article is incorrect - I have to fix it.

Whew! Thought I was losing my marbles....It's an excellent article, Jim...as are all the others on your site smile.gif

I have a pen that is almost like the one in question. I believe the one I have is a Touchdown Admiral TM with a Feathertouch nib? I have a photo of the one in my collection, which has been restored and writes very nicely that I will attach.
PenHero
Yep - That one is an Admiral. It ran the same time as the TM pens, and shows up in many TM advertisements. I class it as a TM in my article.
