After reading this forum and asking about starting pens, I went out and bought myself an M nib M805 from Pam Braun (who is fantastic) and filled it up with Noodler's Kiowa Pecan. WOW! I long to write anything with it. I am taking notes and making lists and I am loving it. I have it on my desk, and all day long I just want to write with it. Unfortunately, I work for an online firm and we are 99.9% paperless, so little writing is ever done. Thanks to all the people that provide this forum with great information. I can totally see why someone would own several great pens. hanks to all the people that provide this forum with great information.

Congratulations on your m805. You started off with a great pen.

Great pen to start with.

Congratulations! My first fountain pen was also an M805. You can't go wrong starting with a Pelikan. smile.gif

And as has already been noted, it's only a start... cool.gif

Great choice! You do realize you're doomed, don't you. No hope of ever going back. Consider yourself assimilated.

In a word - Wow!! The 805 is on my list and what a fantastic first pen. I'll be excited to hear about #2!

Outstanding first choice in a FP.

I think you did the right thing, rather than going for that intermediate price pen, then lusting after a more expensive one (and thus costing oneself more money in the long run), just go for the one you really want even though it is more expensive. Great choice by the way.

Let's hope another novelist or journal-keeper will soon be born then - looks like you have the perfect excuse to write more!

You got that right. I received a pen I purchased off ebay yesterday and I'm already looking for the next one.

Congrats. I am also getting my first new FP's this week. (I'm really not counting the cheapy's I bought last week.) Hopefully, by tomorrow I will receive my Sensa Meridian (did I spell that right?) and a Reform Clear Demo.

You could hardly have made a better choice; the downside is it'll be a hard act to follow. As for writing with it - start keeping a journal, as Patrick hinted. It doesn't have to be anything profound, just write about your day.

As for what is next and why the more expensive starter pen. My first choice had been an Omas (for a few years). When I find one that I like at a good price, it will be my next pen. I have always been the type of person that jumps in head first into things like this. Which is why I skipped the cheaper starter pen, as I know it would only be more expensive in the long run and I would be left with a pen I never really wanted. I also know all too well the problems with visiting message boards like this. In a few weeks I will think it is normal to carry 5 different pens as there is no way to live with out the ink and nib options.
