I've sort have been circling around the Yard O Led Viceroy Grand Barley FP with a fine nib and was wondering if anyone had experience with the pen and maybe what the difference between the standard and the grand are. As well how do they write.

thanks in advance,

Yeh, talk to Ghost Plane. You'll learn about "The Precious". biggrin.gif
**EDIT: Oops, forgot to add that the Grand is a larger version of the Standard. To my knowledge, that is the main difference.

I'm trying to understand the differences in length and girth between the two. Net pictures seem to show a serious girth difference but not much length difference.

Kurt, as I have mentioned before, I have the standard size Viceroy Barley. It is a rather slim and short pen. Based on what I remember from your posts, it may be a little too small for your. I almost regret not getting the Grand (maybe I should, the Grand to leave to my son and the standard to my daughter smile.gif ), but the grip section is such that I can use it very comfortably and I really like writing with it.

If you are still on your quest for that "nice" pen, the Grand may be it. The finish is simply beautiful. Although it is a SS pen, it is not gaudy in any way, but rather elegant and perhaps even restrained for a SS pen. The nib, at least mine, is springy (for a modern), wet, and smooth (I have a medium). It comes in a decent wooden box. Here is a post where I posted a picture of the standard size Viceroy some time ago: pic link. The Grand is fatter. One more thing, the converter seems unusually large, so you should have good ink capacity, if that matters to you.

Having said all this, there is no guaranty this pen will do it for you, but it is worth finding out smile.gif (Pam had some decent prices on them).

How's the cap go on? is it threaded or a click cap? Pam's site is what started me looking. Actually I was really looking at the corinthian but it might be too thin for my preference.

Serious girth difference indeed. Don't know much about length difference, though even a quarter inch will feel a lot in the hand. But I want to correct my post above and say that while the standard may be short, it wasn't too short.

It is a click cap on the standard, so I assume it is the same for the Grand.

I bought the standard viceroy and was quite surprised by how slim it was. I knew it would be slimmer than the grand but not quite that slim! I think it's very similar in girth to a cross century II. It's still a great pen but in hindsight I think I would have been happier with the grand.

No matter what you decide on, the YOL pens are superbly built writing instruments. I have 3 of them and am very satisfied with the ones I have.

Next on my list is the YOL Viceroy Barley Pocket FP in fine. Mouthwatering!
