I have a Water Safety, model # imprint not visible, but I'm guessing a 42 (or 42V) that needs to be recorked. I've got "Da Book" and have removed the spiral from the barrel, but have not tried to remove the spiral from the end piece. I'm a little hesitant to knock it out per "Da Book" instructions. If I do get it out, any tips for making a new cork packing?

Also, since the model imprint is worn away, does anyone know the length of a 42 v a 42V and what are the distinguishing characteristics, if any, between the 42 and 12S?
