Full Version: Question on Sheaffer Clips

My daily user set for awhile now has been the pen and pencil set seen in my avatar (blue Touchdowns). As you can see the clips are slightly twisted (though not as badly as the one on the right looks). They don't seem loose at all- just not straight. My question is- it is safe to use the clips in the normal way- on my shirt pocket? My shirts are usually the botton oxford types. Thanks for your help.

Dear Ray-Vigo,

The way the spring works in the clip of the Snorkel and similar pens there will be some left / right play in the clip. Over time, the spring may wear and the clip has more play in it. I don't think it's an easy repair at all and most will replace the cap. Even some modern Sheaffer Imperials and Legacys will have this problem over time.

Cheers,

I know a pen craftsman downtown Mexico City who performs such repairs successfully, but I don't know his technique.

Hmmm alright- I won't use the clip as much.
