Hi, I decided to return back to fountain pens recently. I have Waterman Expert medium point--I like to write big and smooth. I have Waterman brown ink in it now but the ink seems to be feathering a lot on a regular paper, the color is not sharp. Please recommend a better ink--I would like a very dark black or brown or blue--deep and dark but not too wet. Now, most of the strokes are not really dark. Thanks

The darkest black I've found so far is J. Herbin's Perle Noire. Compared to this ink, Noodler's and Montblanc's black inks look like a dark gray. Perle Noire is about to become my preferred black ink.

Hello margo. I like Skrip Black, Visconti Blue and Lamy Blue. These are all both nicely saturated inks. I can't guarantee that they won't feather on the paper you're using, however. What kind of regular paper are you using? I've had good luck with Cambridge Writing Pads, both the wireless and spiral wire varieties.

Yes, the paper may be more to blame for the feathering than the ink. Not all paper is fountain pen friendly. My favorite paper is Clairefontaine. ALL my pens and ALL my inks love it.

Noodler's Black, Walnut and Manhattan Blue match that description. (Note that Manhattan Blue is sold only by Art Brown. The other two colors are widely available.)

I agree. Clairefontaine is exceptional paper.

I really like Private Reserve Chocolat.
