Hi, I'm Neil and I'm new to FPN. I've been a Pentrace reader and I'm looking for some other pen talk in my life. I live here in the Triangle area of North Carolina and work at UNC. I got my first FP about a year ago when I finished graduate school: a black Phileas and I thought I was so cool. Since then I've accumulated 8 pens after going through a lot more.

I'm a zero sum pen purchaser except for gifts, so I try to never buy more than I can sell. All of my pens are users and mostly modern, since it's hard to find really inexpensive vintage pens (probably costs more to restore than they're worth). I've been amazed at the generosity of pen people. On my first try at buying a pen off the Internet, someone gave me one instead. Then someone else gave me some as well! Hopefully I will be able to repay that generosity somehow some day.

Nice to be here. Thanks.

Hi Neil,

As you go up the income scale, I'm sure that not only will you make similar generous actions to some new in the interest, but that your zero sum paradigm will be redefined, also. biggrin.gif

Welcome and enjoy!

Neil - Welcome aboard! I am also in NC and am a UNC alum as well. I am also a zero sum buyer right now but as Roger has stated, as I move up the food chain I will pass on some of the kindness I've received from the pen community. A remarkable group as you've already discovered.

Cheers!

Welcome, Neil. I hope you enjoy it here as much as most of us do.

Hi Neil and welcome. I believe there is a pen club in your area. Look at Rosspens.com for some info.

Hello Neil and welcome to the Fountain Pen Nuthouse!

Recently, I decided to purchase a completely restored Snorkel Valiant off e-bay and I am sending it to a young lady I know in Japan as a gift, and I am sure she will like it since it's in her favorite color. I am thinking that it might not be a bad idea to give away some nice pens to a few kids that a friend of mine works for, who are special education students and a few of them like to write.

I guess the best way to recruit future pen lovers is through generosity and kindness. This group on this Web site, I am proud to say has a lot of both qualities and then some! smile.gif

Welcome to FPN from Eastern NC (Mount Olive - actually, northern Duplin County)! Nice to see another NCer around the boards.

Maja suggested that there's a lot of us here. If it wasn't such a big state, we could try to hold a get-together with all of us. Have you made it to the Raleigh Pen Show ever? I know it's pretty far for you, but maybe your FPNuts.

Well, I did a "search" using the "Search" button ( eureka.gif ) and found that FPNers "PenHero", "kathywc", "southpaw", "pvdiamon", "kjervin", "rongarland" and yourself, nmb, all live in NC... maybe some others, too.

I know that Dr. Ross McKinney has info on the Research Triangle Pen Club (click link) on his website. Apparently the next meetup is on Sunday Nov. 20th in Durham, NC.
