Full Version: Drowning in paper!

Since joining this forum last month, I can't even count how many notebooks I've bought.

I was already using Moleskines for my pocket journals, but I ran right out to the bookstore and picked up a half dozen Kokuyos (plus a bunch of other related items.)

I read about the Apicas, and despite the fact I'd picked up a bunch last time I was in New Orleans, I went down to Katagiri and picked up more from them.

After reading about French-ruled paper, I went to the local stationery store to look for it. They were out of stock, so I bought some pretty Clairefontaines and a Rhodia pad. I realized I already had a Quo Vadis, in European Format, from some years ago so I dug that up. But I'll still check back to see what the stationery store produces.

Not to mention I signed up for the postcard exchange without realizing I was supposed to send site-specific postcards (not just the Crane's and various art ones in my stash) so I had to go buy NYC postcards.

Luckily, a lot of the brands you guys mention are already in my stash, without my being brand-aware. I guess I just gravitate to good paper.

I need to take a class or something to use up some of these notebooks!

I have a bit of a paper fetish, so I know the feeling... except mine isn't all notebook paper (that would be much too useful!).

I have about 3000 pieces of pretty 12x12" scrapbook paper, even though I am not "into" scrap booking. I'm just a sucker for these pretty papers, and I've been buying them for years, even though all they get used for is backdrops for my pen photos...

Watercolor papers... I don't even paint with watercolors anymore, but I still buy blocks of paper, telling myself that I'll get back into it one day. I'm the same with drawing paper (although I do use that), but I still buy far more than I could ever use up.

If I could actually buy Clairefontaine, Rhodia etc in Australia, I'd probably have 10 copies of each size stashed away too!

It's a sickness, I tell you. wink.gif

Hmm, perhaps opening a paper store would let you indulge your addiction and make money at the same time. It sounds like you have half your inventory already purchased. rolleyes.gif

Well....you're not alone......I have a journal store collection of Moleskines, and other fine quality archival journals ( some supposed to last 500 years); probably about 20 altogether, and then there's the art stuff: bargain buys on watercolors, oils, acrylics, gouache, pastels, Kolinsky sable brushes, you name it...but all professional quality. Last great buy was $1400.00 of DVP watercolors for $85.00. and then there's the stack of Arches Watercolor paper and half a room full of new canvases.

Michaels had some small notebooks, similar to Moleskine but no pocket. Regular price wasn't bad at $4.99, but I picked up 10 at $1.00 each on a clearance sale. They are not as good as a Moleskine, but at $1.00 each, I'm not complaining. They are still a handy pocket notebook.

There's no end to it and every time I find a really cheap bargain on professional stuff, I just can't help it. Then there's the pen collection: Montblanc FPs, ball points, rollerballs, Cross, Parker, Diplomat, and again all at bargain prices. At least I have valued items to show for the money spent and the enjoyment. In many of my posts, I tend to stress the fact that my budget does not allow for these indulgences at regular retail prices....so I'm patient and I wait and look and look and then a bargain comes along and its a quantity buy everytime. Sometimes I negotiate prices with the manager to make an even sweeter deal. The worst they can do is say no.

My mum was not happy about lifting our suitcases on the return flight from Paris because I had bought so much Clairefontaine. She did by Clairefontaine Pollen stationery so my notebooks(cahiers) and loose leaf paper(feuillets mobiles) were not the only things to blame, although I did buy more than her. smile.gif

Hah! roflmho.gif I'm with you. Last time I visited my father, I bought so much Le Creuset, I had to have it shipped home separately.

One of my "things to do" for today's holiday is to sort the stack of paper.
Some is recently purchased, some not. I already went on-line today and
ordered top-bound Clairefontaine & Rhodia notebooks to carry around
at work. (Due to circumstances beyond my control, I need to keep copious
notes... just in case.) The paper accumulated so far is watercolor, black
drawing paper books (or journals) , spiral-bound drawing pads, tracing
vellum, cheap tracing paper in rolls, and probably some stuff I've missed.
