I recently purchased two Lamy Safari Vista Fountain Pens.
Upon receiving them, they both had issues. One was leaking past the rubber seal in the cap, and in the barrel, and the other had ink flow issues. The ink I used was Noodler's, El Lawrence in one, and Polar Blue in the other. I know that El Lawrence isn't as free-flowing an ink as others, but I've used it fine in my Rotring Art Pen, which had a similar nib, and in my Parker, with a thicker nib.
I took them to the Australian distributors here, Pol Equipment, located in Sydney.
While I was there, they mentioned that Lamy pens now only have a two-year warranty on them. The card that came with the pen mentioned a lifetime warranty, and from what I know, Lamy's have always had a lifetime warranty. Is is possible for the manufacturer to change the warranty like that, after the purchase, and is it true Lamy now only has a two year warranty?
Also, after two weeks, I called again, and they said it was the ink I used, that I had not used Lamy ink, and that was the reason for problems. They said that since it was not covered under warranty because I had not used Lamy ink, there would be a $15 charge per pen. I enquired as to what they would do, and they said they would just flush the pens. Unless there is a special kind of flushing, I'm sure I could do this myself, and I don't see how this would solve a problem with the rubber seal, or with the ink flow, if it's a nib thing.
Also, I tried using the contact form on the Lamy website, and it doesn't seem to be working ("A technical error has occured...), nor has it for the two weeks I've tried. Also, I can't seem to track down any Lamy email addresses.
Are there any recommendations that members would have as to what to do, or what to say? And does anybody have a contact address for Lamy?
Thanks,
Victor
