Submitted for your evaluation...
http://cgi.ebay.com/SHEAFFERS-FOUNTAIN-PEN...1QQcmdZViewItemUmmm...isn't this just a desk pen with a broken taper?
I mean, I suppose you
could use it to dial a phone, but honestly...!
Cheers,
Jon

I've actually heard of phone dialers models. The taper is short and wider than normal and stubby. For use in old rotary dial phones, like when you worked in an office and had to dial all day.

I think Parker made one with a ball on the end of the pen.

Oh, absolutely, there are real Sheaffer "dialers" out there - flattops and Balances alike - although, if I remember correctly, Sheaffer never called them by that name. Got a few of 'em, and they're very cool pens.
But this offering, I'm afraid, isn't one of them. One tipoff: the lack of barrel threads.
I'll see if I can dig out some of my "dialers" and post a photo.
Cheers,
Jon
