Hear last night at the local pen store that in 2008 sometime Sailor will be coming out with a piston fill version of it's 1911 series.

Ooh yes!!
That's a move forward. I shall be having one of those. That should knock the Pelikan sales

I hope it's true. The convertor in 1911 is too small for such a juicy writer.

Hooray,...
Fantastic news..
Hopefully it is not a limited edition pen only.

Yes I hope it is a model introduced to supersede (or at least coexist with) the current C/C version AND that it is affordable!

Or... the price of a new M605.
Not knocking Sailors, I love mine. But you are talking about almost DOUBLING the price.

A demonstrator M version is what I'd really like. I don't compulsively buy pens (only bought one for myself this year), but I'd be willing to pre-order this one...

So $300+?? Jeez... I don't know if I'd want to spend that much. There are plenty of great piston-filler pens at the fraction of the cost. As jmkeuning pointed out, I could get a brand new M605 for less than $150.

I have very little faith in anything I hear in a store, but I could imagine Sailor coming out with a $150 piston option for the King of Pen more easily than a 1911. Anything that calls itself King of Pen needs a filling system
A new M605 is $300? I assume that means RRP.

Based on who it was, I would have to say it is a VERY reliable source.

About one year ago I visited the Sailor pen clinic in Maastricht. It was a great show and I had the chance to chat with a couple of Sailor marketing executives. I asked the question regarding piston filling pens and they explained that they were working on it. I guess the time has come
For the time being the only piston filler Sailor pen that exists is the Realo, which was a limited edition pen for the 95th anniversary of the company. The size is based on the King of Pen model and it is a great pen to use. I am lucky enough to own one.
I am including a couple of photos from the pen clinic. Handshake with Mr. Yukio Nagahara in one (btw, he improved the flow of my MB 149 in a few seconds by the way) and on the other one, the master at work!

This is terrific news!
I have a sailor Professional Gear that I carry with a music nib. I is a lovely writer but the convertor holds so little ink...
I will definately buy one of their pistons when they come out.

Personally, I would prefer a piston fill KoP. Pistons work better on larger pens that can hold a lot of ink.

I hope this is true. To me, the filling system is the only thing that puts Sailor behind Pelikan. Do you know any other details, like will the ink windows be slotted like the Realo? And will there be a sterling silver version?

A Realo type filling system with large ink capacity is long overdue and should have been one of their regular production offerings. Their tiny converter cannot keep up with the requirements of their ink-guzzler nibs such as the cross, eagle and emperor Naginata nibs.
