hello y'all. I wonder what kind of paper high quality Bibles, and ther Holy Books are printed on. The paper is rather thin, like onion-skin paper, yet they can print text on both sides of every page, without the printing ink bleeding trough to the other side.
I wonder, if that kind of paper is easily available, and how it would respond to being written on with fountain pen ink?
Thanks in advance.

Domtar (a paper mill) has a paper called Featherweight Opaque which is pretty much that bible kind of paper. I believe they will send free samples. The last email I have for them is Samplexpress@Aerofulfillment.com. If the paper suits your needs you then need to get a local print shop to order it from them for you since they don't sell to individuals.

I underline and mark passages in my Bible but have to use something other than a fountain pen because of blead through.

See paper info here

Some Bible paper is made from hemp, a fact which the proponents of industrial hemp often cite. Their enthusiasm for the subject seems more that of hobbyists rather than agriculturalists.

The sort of ink used in offset printing isn't much like pen ink... it's more like putty. When I used to do offset printing long ago I think most inks were oil or rubber based with oil-based ink being more common in the professional printing industry. I don't remember it really soaking into paper at all and it took some time to try. I suspect an offset press wouldn't be able to get enough ink on any paper to have bleed through, but it's been forever since I had anything to do with offset printing. Anyway I wouldn't try to infer anything about pen usage with paper based on anying from a printing press....

Bibles are printed on, wait for it, Bible paper. It is also used for dictionaries and other books that want to keep the weight down. It is thin but has a high rag content (read as more cotten than wood pulp). That suggests that a fountain pen should work on it but try it in a less critical place first, such as writing your name on a fly page.

I hope this helps.
