I am recently a new member to this forum. I have been sitting on hundreds of valuable pens for years now. I am taking one by one finding out the going rate is for them. In my possession is the Kane 18k Leaning Tower of Pisa Pen. I have visted Pen City and am aware there are only 2 made. What is the going rate for this pen if I were to sell it today? Does anyone have any good websites explaining in depth the value of these historical piece? I'd appreciate any help and information.

I hope I posted this in the right section.

If only 2 were made, then there is no "going rate". Basically, you will have to guess. Unique items like this sell mostly by good luck; there is no established market for them in the way that there is for common well-known items. If you find a buyer who has been searching for your item, they may pay a good price. If not, you may get poor offers or none at all.

This must be the other one.

That auction claims there are 73 gold ones and over a thousand pens total. That gives a little more of a base to estimate from, if you can find out what some more of them went for.

The ebay Montagrappa is not the pen the original poster is talking about. See this page for info on some of the pens created by Kane Boutry.

The is also a Boutry overlay ringtop in this Stylophiles story:

Neither of the pens listed are the one I carry.

Kane Gold Leaning Pen of Pisa
Limited Edition Fountain Pen

The Leaning Pen of Pisa was created to honor one of the most extraordinary examples of architecture in history. In the design of this piece, Kane Boutry used a copy of the original Pisa blueprints in order to precisely recreate the image. The cap leans to the exact degree of the actual building when placed on a flat surface. The overlay is cast of solid Sterling silver on a base of a Pelikan M800 fountain pen. This piece was commissioned by PenCity for exclusive world-wide distribution and is not available through Pelikan. Only two (2) pieces will be available in solid 18K gold. (4oz.)

Thank you for the information you guys have replied. Can anyone tell me a website or forum I can go to where people that seek specific pens like this one can be found?

You found it.

But tell me, is the rumor true... that every year the writing angle of this pen changes?

Kanes' work is truly magnificent!! This forum will get you in touch with around 6000 fountain pen folks many of which own Limited Edition Pens and one off pens. You may have to go back to the craftsman to help you appraise the pen for current value. Other places where you may find interest are Pentrace and the Zoss List. I wish you luck in determining it's value and in placing it in a new home if that is your desire. I'm affraid it would be way out of my price range.

Thanks again for the help. Yeah, this pen belongs in a certain someones possession. I have had no interest, although very cool to own, in this pen hobby. I much rather see it in someones glass case in their office or safe. Does anyone have an estimate of its worth....1g, 5gs, 10gs, etc. Sorry for all the questions but where can I find a craftsman to give the value of this pen. I live in CT and I want to find someone around this area.

Hello Everyone,

I am back to the site with this Pen still in my possession. Does anyone have any documentation of the history of Kane Boutry, his family, where he lived, or anything for that matter. I would like this pen to be in the hands of the family of Kane Boutry.

Kane Boutry Vancouver Canada his web kanepens.com is no longer there but look on the zoss list page for more information. I have heard that he did several overlays then no longer heard form.

I offer $1.50.

Obviously you want a very high price for this pen and are looking for someone here to justify it.

Since there were only two made and you have one you get to ask what you want for it.
But that doesn't mean anyone is going to pay it.

Unfortunately true. It is only worth what people are wiling to pay. You will has to do the legwork to find a collector who is rich and wants the pen. Maybe go to the DC penshow and ask around, you might get a offer there.
