Hi, just received a 1980s 149, it is mint in box and has not been inked.

It has a sticker on the barrel labelled "Made in W. Germany but the clip is stamped Germany with no serial number, should it be stamped W.Germany?

The nib is marked 14K with a plating overlay covering the centre of the nib to the scroll work. The feed is ebonite and the filler threads appear to be black and not the brass I expected.

Is this filler the nasty plastic version or blackened metal? I thought the plastic fillers were a late 90s - 2000+ feature.

There is clearly a lack of Mont Blanc knowledge here. I have found MB history to be somewhat vague.

Ok self help and lots of digging I have finally found all the answers and a nice surprise.

It turns out my newly acquired 149 is new old stock (NOS) mint in box 1970s production, exactly what I was after - I was born in the 70s you see.

I found an excellent article on Pentrace written by Lex Villines titled "My Montblanc 149s - 1952 to 1990"

Please see link

This is just excellent for dating 149s.

Pictures below taken from the article show various nibs and fillers, the plastic fillers are not a recent production feature at all, modern 149 have brass fillers, the plastic threaded fillers are 1960s to late 70s. (according to the article)

Edited to include photos.

Its a good one, I'm not so keen on the medium nib, I'll grind it to something more interesting and usable at the end of the week.
