Okay, I have a Platignum Silverline where I've managed to destroy the section (long story, don't want to go into the details, I feel really badly about it) --- but I still have the nifty sac and collection of NOS (and even more used) nibs.

Would it be feasible to make a new section?

If so, what would be the additional effort of making the balance of the pen (matching cap and barrel).

Essentially what I'd like is a custom-made pen which could use the replaceable Platignum nib units (which I have in abundance and which are easily found on eBay)--- does anyone have any information on what the threads would be for these? I guess ``all'' I'd need would be a pen kit for the cap and barrel, then a blank for the section and a tap and die set to cut the threads....

I'd like to wind up w/ a really sturdy black pen which is lighter than my Sheaffer Agio (which is lacquered brass).

Will,

I don't know the Platignum Silverline. Could you check the thread on what's left of the section, or on the barrel where it joins.
If it is a single start thread you may get away with your plan smile.gif
If it's a multi start thread then it's a whole different game unsure.gif

BTW - any chance of a few pics (including the damaged bits)??

Hi Will,

If this custom pen is something that you want to try making/getting made, have fun with the design and go for it but if you just need another Silverline section I'll have a look see whether I have any spare 'Silverline' sections hanging about that might be useful, I should have a few in various colours. I have probably got a few complete pens of various models that use the same range of nib units, let me know if I can help and I'll get the bits/pens in the post.

Cheers, John

John, a spare section (brown if you have it, black or any other colour would be fine though) would be great! Thanks!

That said, I have been searching for a new hobby, so looking into learning how to make pens is appealing, and I do feel badly about the sack / filler in the section I broke never having been filled w/ ink and used, so making something which could make use of that (and the plethora of Platignum nibs I have laying about) would be a good thing.

And as much as I like the Platignum nibs, I've decided that I'm simply too rough on pens to carry a Platignum in my pocket, hence the desire to make something really sturdy....

FWIW, it appears to me that it's a single start thread on my Platignum Silverline sections.

I have a section (from goodness knows what pen) that holds the Silverline nib unit. This section doesn't completely "engulf" the unit (so it doesn't look great), but holds the unit steady. However, this section doesn't fit in my Agio barrel, or any other metal barrels that I have that would make a sturdier pen.

If John doesn't find anything that you can use, and you want this section, let me know.

Best,
Ann
