About 14 - 15 years ago I won a Parker 21 set by being the 1000th person to visit a pen shop's "website". I don't recall the website or the pen shop, but I can remember going back to that site over and over trying to win that set. The web was in it's infancy and search engines weren't what they are today so I don't even know how I found the site. I do remember using a Mozilla spider of some sort to search the net looking for pens. It was cumbersome, but got the job done and using Netscape 1.X as my browser. Netscape ruled in those days! I actually went down to an office supply store an BOUGHT Netscape! 40 bucks as I recall!

When I received the set in the mail, it was a NOS Parker 21 pen and pencil set in a nice blue color. The FP had never been inked of course, and at the time I really didn't appreciate vintage pens so I put it all in a drawer and forgot about it until a few months back. I pulled it out the other day and it is indeed a gorgeous set. Still has the papers also. It has become my first addition to my new vintage collection.

Has anyone else ever won a writing instrument / instruments?

Do they still really give anything away on the web?

In the past, FPN has had "contests" in which the prize was a fp donated by a member. It was fun (even though I didn't win) to try my hand at a story or poem or such. Winners were chosen by popular vote among members and I suspect FPN's membership swelled as the contestants got their relatives and friends to register and vote for them (I tried but it didn't help!).

I suppose anyone can put a pen up for grabs, declare a contest, post rules and a poll for choosing the winner, and such.

Now would be a good time to have a "Thanksgiving" contest where the objective is for members to submit a new literary work (poem, prose, essay, limerick, haiku, etc.) that includes a turkey. Winner gets a pen.

Someone should really do this.

Hmmmmmm.

Wonder if I can spare a pen.............................

Does a suitcase count? I won an American Tourister carry-on when they first came out on the market. I know it's not a pen but I bet I could fit about ten thousand pens in it..... roflmho.gif

I won a pen from Ricahrd Binder for pointing out some design changes for a Conklin pen.

It was a vest pocket Filaco. Nice pen wink.gif

George, what did you tell him to do? It must have been really good to merit a pen! smile.gif

Well, the MT Brainwash... err...

It was a contest to see what are the differences between X vintage Conklin, and Y Conklin.

I do (off my writing site, whenever I have a release). Six or so months ago, I had a contest where the winner won a Waterman Audace. The response (compared to other "prizes" I've offered, such as chocolates, books, and the like) was tepid, which made me wonder if I was foisting my love of pens onto others smile.gif

I have never won a pen, but one of the many users of my fountain pen database sent me an Esterbrook desk pen in appreciation. That makes it very special to me and it will always have an honored place in my collection.

During the 2006 Tour de France, I sponsored the "Stylo Jaune" contest, in which the person who guessed the winner and came closest to predicting the overall margin of victory won a yellow Waterman fountain pen.

Gee, now that Floyd Landis has been found responsible for committing a doping infraction and is no longer considered the winner, I wonder whether I should ask for my pen back? unsure.gif

James, I bet I can guess what the person would say! lticaptd.gif

I've won some nice modern Sheaffers and a lovely pen calendar over at the FPN Sheaffer forum. They were kindly donated by the moderator there - Jim "Penhero" Mamoulides of Penhero.com-- as prizes for a series of pen quizzes.

A long time ago, FPNer Kevin "Winedoc" Cheng had a little pen photo quiz and I entered it for the fun of it (as I do any quiz---it's the challenge that interests me) and wound up with a gorgeous Danitrio pen.

Over at Pentrace.net , I wound up with a Borghini fountain pen courtesy of Giovanni Abrate of Tryphon Enterprises.

I'm still trying to win one of those Stylus crossword puzzle prizes, though.... laugh.gif

Last Christmas, our hospital had a Christmas luncheon and was giving out raffle prizes, AND... I got a Danitrio roller ball pen made for a well known international company. LOL.

My name was drawn at a pen show and I won a Mont Blanc ball point pen. Incredibly, a year later, at the same show, my name was drawn again and won another MB pen; this time I added a small amount of cash to get a roller ball instead of the same ball point. No, I didn't have the same kind of luck in Vegas.

I won a pen. When I was in 4th grade there was this contest at church. Someone had drawn a bunch of pictures and you had to guess which hymn was represented.

The prize was a Parker Vector - with the American Flag. I have always had a soft spot for Vectors since then.

nope, but it would be way cool if I did! smile.gif
