Greetings!
I stumbled across this site yesterday. I'm excited to find such a wealth of information!
I'm a college student, and have always had an obsession with all things office supply related, including pens. Fountain pens are somewhat new to me, having purchased two over the past few years. I've got one from Levenger (I don't know the name of the style) which is great to look at, but frankly a little too heavy to use for much more than list writing. I also have a Cross ATX black and silver, but I've never been overly impressed with its writing quality... I feel the ink "skips" too much.
My normal every day pen has been a Cross Century II royal blue select tip, but after seeing that the refills have gone up in price again for it, and the desire to use a colour other than standard blue or black, I ordered a Cross Century II black 23k gold fountain pen yesterday (I don't really know why, but the Century II has been my favourite style since first using one). I've been poking around this site at all the ink info, determined to try a converter and skip the cartridges. Additionally, I want to put more focus towards improving my penmanship... I write worse than a third grader.

Hi Christopher and greetings from New York City. I would be willing to bet that if you got two Lamys (with converters) and carried a bottle of ink, you would be set for any writing or notes you had to take during the day. The Lamys are wonderful, lightweight and (in my experience) never skip a beat.

Hi Christopher,
Welcome to FPN. I'm from Portland, although I've lived in Austin, Texas for the past 18 years. Portland has a Pen Show in mid-July, which I keep missing. One of these years though, I'm definitely going. Portland is much nicer than Austin is....in July.
Where are you going to school?

I go to Portland State! Awesome suggestion!
I've been looking through the handwriting section and have been trying to absorb the knowledge there... and have become a little jealous after seeing some of the amazing handwriting examples.
Thanks!

I've lived in Portland for nearly 10 years. My father was in the Navy so I've lived all over, but Portland feels like home to me. I've never been to Austin, but lived in San Angelo for a year, and certainly don't miss the heat!
I'm going to school at Portland State University... right downtown.

If you go to PSU, check out the bookstore. There should be copies of the books by Inga Dubay and Barbara Getty.
Also, check the PSU calendar around November or so. There is an annual (one day only) Handwriting Improvement Workshop given by both Inga and Barbara on PSU's campus. This usually attracts hundreds, so if you decide to go, sign up early, and show up early. Here is a link to an article in the Portland Tribune about the one held this past January:
