Hi,

A bit miffed when I missed out on a couple of nice Vacs (memo to self 'don't be mean if you really want it bid higher').

Anyway in consolation I saw this have no idea what it is but bid anyway because I think it looks gorgeous, anyone got any idea what it might be?

The seller is an ebay regular who seems to sell mainly English pens and I'm guessing if he hasn't attributed a maker it's something obscure that he can't put a name to.

Any of you experts in obscure pens have any suggestions?

Hi! The celluloid/CA looks like some used on a pre-WW2 Italian pen called a Wilma or Wilmas that I seen photos of; however, that pen I saw in the past had a different clip and a steel nib. Whatever it is, it's kuhl! Thanks, drew49

Drew,

Thanks, at least gives me a starting point to research, not really that bothered as the pen looks really nice, but it's always good to know what pens you have. I was guessing English as most of the sellers other pens are.

Do the stringy-looking lines look like they are on top of one another? I saw a rare Nakaya this week that had some sort of custom-laid-up-lacquer that looked a lot like this.

Photos are always hard to tell.

It's a fountain pen..........seriously, it's a fountain pen lticaptd.gif lticaptd.gif lticaptd.gif ------Sorry, it's early on a Saturday and I haven't had all of my coffee yet. I have a couple very nice vintage pens that have no name or markings and when I saw yours I thought it was like one I had. Alas, it's not upon closer inspection. So, I guess I can be of no help but I will say VERY NICE PEN

Looks like a 24 Pound pen to me! yikes.gif

But you are right, it is beautiful!

Rather nice for a third tier pen -- look for an imprint on the barrel. It may be marked as to maker and model.

The clip is much nicer than one would expect in a "dime store" pen aka Wearever, Scripto, etc (and whoever the UK makers of not top of the line pens were). May or may not be a 14kt nib, it may be plated, but if so, it's in excellent shape for it's age.

If it is a 14kt nib, it's not a third tier pen, it would be more like one of the Majestic types in the US -- not make by one of the Big Four, but equivalent quality.

Will probably need a new sac, but likely will write very well.

Thanks for responses and comments.

Pen arrived today, in pretty good condition, nib 14 ct warranted so I suppose could be a replacement, nib is smaller than I expected (bit like the Charleston nib) but writes well, after long inspection absolutely no clues on the pen as to what make it might be, no sign of any imprint at all.

Seller mentioned new ink sac fitted and seems to hold a good amount of ink (more than my modern CS Duro button filler seems to).

The body of the pen is transparent with swirls in the plastic (celluloid?) and really looks quite nice as when held up to the light you can see the internals fairly clearly. Still amazes me that manufacturers don't seem able to make these types of plastics today when even 2nd tier makers could 60 years or more ago.

Added a couple of pictures just in case anyone can give any clues to maker (borrowed from ebay listing courtesy of snav1517).
