Full Version: Fake Pen!

My friend was given a Waterman Edson Diamond Black ball pen last week by a client of his, he felt he wouldnt use it enough as it was such an expnsive pen so he offered it to me for GBP£100.00.

As it's my Mum's birthday today I thought it would make a nice gift for her, as some kindly person recently stole her Mont Blanc Meisterstuck and a Cross Century Classic (18k Rolled Gold, a gift from my Daughter and I) from her home so I thought this would make a nice gift for her.

Well how p**sed off was I!!

Turned up to collect the Waterman Edson Diamond Black BP last night.

When I got home from the bar where we met I took a closer look, IT WAS A DAMN FAKE!!!

The serial no on the clip was 000000 and was not aligned properly.

The twist cap on the pen would not push down on the barrel correctly and the platinum collar by the nib was not aligned properly, also area's of the black barrel had a colour variation.

I was so dissapointed, took it straight back to my friend, lucky no money had changed hands, he was genuinly upset about the whole thing, even more so that it was a gift from one of his largest clients.

Will they stop at nothing.

Regards to all

Had your friend not opened the pen before offering to you? Did he not recognize what appears to be such an obvious fake, based on your description?

I'll tell you right now how I would handle this. Your friend should go back to his client and say, "I was using your beautiful gift in a meeting with some friends of mine who are avid fountain pen collectors. They admired it so I would like to buy one for each of them. Please tell me where you bought this pen so I might be able to buy a few also."

Allow me to warn you however, I am not in the world of private business and with this statement I would probably have a very fancy street corner on which to set up housekeeping.... lticaptd.gif

In a word 'NO'

He had looked at the pen, but as he has no idea about them (or that they even make fakes) he wouldn't know what to look for, he couldn't tell a Waterman from a Bic. As far as he is concerened a pen is a pen. The only thing he knew was that this was supposed to be an expensive pen.

I would be disappointed, too, and probably upset. But, as you said, your friend had no clue the pen was a fake. It could very well be that the client who gifted him with the pen is as unaware as he was. I would encourage your friend to say something to the client. It could be that client is being ripped off by a vendor, who just might be doing it intentionally. The further down the food chain this complaint goes, the better. With awareness of the problem, several people might be spared both expense and embarrassment.

At least at Mum's birthday dinner you will have one hell of a story to tell.

I have seen fake MB, Parker, Dupont and Danitrio, but not Waterman. Too bad you did not take pics of the fake.

Could it have been another model?

That would suck to receive such an obvious fake. If you are going to make a fake you might as well make it a good one (not that I condone making fakes because I don't).

The very concept of fake pens angers me!!! Knock offs that don't put the copied pens name on them are one thing but when they try to copy and sell fake pens as the real thing that is just too much! I got a fake MB Generations once on Ebay but the guy took it back when I made a stink!

PS nice choice for the Birthday gift!!!! Hey my Birthday is Sunday!! rolleyes.gif

Nope was definatly an Edson Diamond Black copy, I have a real Edson Sapphire Blue & Gold FP.

The problem was under poor lighting conditions you couldnt really tell, it was only when I got home and had a closer look I realised I had a fake, but to those who dont know their pens, they wouldnt of had a clue.
