Hello Everyonel,

My name is Russell, and I am from Houston. I have been posting here for some time, and I realize how impolite it has been for me not to have introduced myself by now. I am sorry. I have been collecting and repairing for awhile now, and probably like many others, I started with the Esties. I still accumulate as many of these guys as I can, but I will collect about anything of pen interest. My other favorites are early pens, Vacs, ….. heck, all pens have the potential to become my favorite. I really enjoy this forum; especially, the Repair and Esterbrook boards, as I get tons of useful information from these.

Much appreciation for all of the help I have rec’d so far, and if I can be of help to anyone, please let me know. One the great things I have found in this hobby is that all involved openly share what they know or can afford to give. It is my intention to extend the same courtesy.

Thanks,

Russell

Welcome aboard Russ! I know what you mean - it took me a while to get around to the "new member intro" thing as well. Glad to have you around and have been enjoying your contributions thus far (and looking forward to more).

Hi Russ! Thanks for the intro. It's nice to hear from someone in my area. Sometimes I feel like the only pen nut in Houston (well, sorta Houston, actually slightly to the south.)

Have we talked about Dromgoole's already? Have you found any good hunting places for vintage? I'm told that between here and the Hill country one can stumble on pens in the wild (antique shops and such) but have never been so fortunate around here.

I confess I will probably never make it to the LSPC meetings (assuming they still occur) but i sure would love to see the Houston pen show revived even if only for a day. (whimper).

Take care and welcome again to FPN,

Thank you Southpaw and Kcat, I have enjoyed many of your posts as well. Kcat, I office in Clear Lake and live further South near Galveston. I have searched high and low in my immediate area and pickings are definately slim. I am now working through Estate sales people, but I guess most Texans just are not fountain pen users, as not much comes from this source either. I hear the Dallas show has been revived, and I hope to be there with a table. A Houston Show would be nice..... maybe someday.

Thanks Again.

ah... okay.. so you're near hubby's work.

we're out the 288/518 direction. i've often daydreamed about opening a shop here. AFter all, there's every conceivable shop in a strip center on this side of town.. why not pens? but hubby just smiles and shakes his head. smile.gif

I'm told that checking out antique shops in the Galveston and Alvin area might be productive. But you can't go to the Alvin area as that's where we *plan* to live and i want dibs... smile.gif

just kidding of course - if you do try to hit the antique stores down there, i'd love to hear about it.

Welcome Russ smile.gif

I haven't done an intro yet! rolleyes.gif Purposeful on my part as [WHISPER] I'm a shy and retiring type laugh.gif [/WHISPER]

You hit the ground running here on FPN, so you are already a contributor. biggrin.gif After 500+ posts, I still can't contribute much. laugh.gif

Enjoy!

Alvin is chock full of antique shops.... there is more than enough for the two of us, two's the limit however :-)  The Strand on Galveston remains up for grabs.

Thanks Roger,
500+ posts... I think you have more than earned your stripes. Always enjoy your contributions.

Because they're nested, they can be confusing. I can probably explain it, but there a few ways to do it and knowing my predilection for verbiage, unsure.gif it might require several thousand words tongue.gif from me. I'll keep an eye on your question and its answers, Russ, and if none are forthcoming, I'll do my best.

But, I know that folk like Denis, KCat and Wim to name only those that jump out at me, can put it rather more succinctly, so let's see what falls out.

Hi Russ:

I am glad that you like the forums here and I too feel that one can learn a lot from them. Thankfully, we have the Internet to help connect us with people now days, so we can exchange info, and learn a lot about these fine writing instruments. Where was the Web when I was in high school researching a report and using a typewriter?

Thanks Ron,

Ahhh do I remember the stacks of encyclopedias in everyone’s living rooms. When I was required to cite multiple sources in my school papers, the Encyclopedia Brittania was my only source, just cited many times over. The teachers seemed to understand.

Hi Russ...and welcome to FPN! biggrin.gif

Thanks for the introduction; it's always nice to know even a little bit about new FPNers. It's a very friendly community and any contributions (posts & pictures) are welcome. Heck, I don't know an awful lot about pens and I have almost 1500 posts! laugh.gif
