Full Version: How to adjust "51"

Hi everyone, could someone tell me how to adjust the "51". When left uncapped (about 4 minutes) it dries and takes a few seconds to start up
again. I was under the impression that with the hooded nib and the big collector, it would not happen with the "51"
What can i adjust on it, the hood? and how much pressure it is exerting on the nib and any other adjustment areas?
Thanks
Des

It is normal for the 51 to go dry if left uncapped and unused for 4 minutes.

The hood helps matters but it is after all a fountain pen.

Hi Des - while the "51" design certainly helps when you leave a pen uncapped (all three of mine take some time to dry out to the point of not writing) eventually it will dry out despite the hood. 4 minutes is certainly a bit short - my guess is that the collector is clogged with dried ink and you're not getting the full effect of the collector.

I'd try really soaking it overnight in a 1:10 ammonia:water solution and flushing like crazy. If that doesn't work you may need to remove the hood to really get the fins cleaned.
