Hello everyone! I'm a gradstudent based in IN, and I'm hoping to graduate next Spring. I've started to write my dissertation and for notetaking, I use a fountain pen with my Moleskine. I've been using cartridges with my fountain pen, but yesterday, I bought a converter and a bottle of Private Reserve's Orange Crush!
Great site!
Welcome Sarah. Someone who picks Private Reserve's Orange Crush as their first bottle of ink is a person after my own heart. Is your avatar your own artwork? It's great! Which fountain pen do you have?

My research is on hormone therapy for Type 2 diabetes. Definitely a Boilermaker, but I hope to move to SF after graduation, and switch from endocrinology to neuroscience.
I use a Sheaffer Agio in Barley Black with M nib, which I got from a quick trip down our University Bookstore. I did paint my avatar. I copied that Bill Sienkewicz art from the Delirium story in Neil Gaiman's Endless Nights. This now hangs in my dining area, along with other portraits of The Endless that I've painted. (This is where the rest of my stipend goes).

UCSF? My wife went to grad school with some people who did post-docs up there ("up" - we were in LA at the time). I think Kate Rankin is still there. But that is neuro-psych... probably different departments. Well, good luck!

Welcome to FPN and congrats on writing!

Gotta be careful of those profs, they can be tricky!

Welcome Sarah! What a very pretty color ink you have chosen for your notes. I hope you can read them without too much bother, especially if you have to repeatedly read them for an exam.

I've been browsing Moleskinerie and this discussion board and there seems to be mixed reviews about Private Reserve on Moleskines when it comes to feathering and bleed-through. I've tried a Parker and a Sheaffer with M nibs on my Moleskine and I haven't had any problems. I'm looking into purchasing a Conklin Symetrik with F nib for my first "expensive" pen. It's discounted from $130 to $80 at Fountain Pen Hospital.

Hello, Sarah. Welcome to Fountain Pen Network!Glad to have you aboard. Your career pursuits are impressive, to be sure. Best of luck at UCSF in neuroscience.
Your avatar definitely 'caught my eye' . . . and, after a little searching, was wondering if this was the same lady (er, picture) you used as your inspiration?
BTW -- Which color Conklin Symetrik do you plan to go with -- the Powder Blue Pearl or Yellow Pearl? Both are beautiful, IMHO.
Hope you enjoy your new pen -- and the FPN Forum!

Clive: Yep, that's the piece I copied from one of my comicbooks. I haven't bought the Conkilin Symetrik yet, but I'm partial to the yellow pearl.
Thanks for the kind replies, everyone!

That JPEG did look awfully familiar. I second your opinion re: the yellow pearl Conklin. Hope you add one to your collection shortly.
