Hello from Adelaide. I'm a new member.
I have been a fountain pen user for 44 years. I have just started expanding my collection beyond the pragmatic to the indulgent by purchasing a second Waterman Laureat just for the sake of a different barrel colour. I have started collecting retro pens; mainly the cheaper but useful pens of my school years. I have just bought an unused Platignum Pressmatic dating from the late 1960s, still in the original package. What I remembered of a Pressmatic was the type with the rubber squeeze bladder on the filler. This one has a steel filler tube with a button on the top end which, I guess, you push down on to draw ink in to the filler. The button does not have much travel and doesn't seem to draw ink in when I press it, resulting in a limited writing time. Am I missing something here? Is there another action? I don't want to force anything. Is there a member who REmembers using one of these? I have attached a picture showing the mechanism.

Hi smile.gif and welcome to FPN. Unfortunately I don't know anything about a Platignum Pressmatic, but be patient. I'm sure somebody on FPN can help you. You might try a search in the Writing Instruments forum.

I have never used this pen but one thing I made a mistakes on in the beginning was that I did not hold the nib down far enough into the ink. Basically, make sure the whole thing is submerged while you press and release the button. Do it a couple times (while still in the ink) to make sure. Good luck and welcome to FPN.

Thanks for your welcomes and your suggestions. I'll play around with it further. Enjoy your day.

Welcome to FPN. Platignum Pens, I've had a couple. Lost one while shopping. The other I have is a repair project.

Hi, i am a new member and am in the same predicament with a platignum pressmatic. While pushing the button too hard the metal part protecting the sac came off, but it was easily mended. For now I just use it as a dip pen but if I figure out how to refill it I will post the details here.

Regards

Hi there,

I think i got it working now. After accidentally detaching the nib from the sac guard thing i noticed the metal squeezer was facing so that the kink was towards the nib. Not only did this put the sac out of shape but it was hitting the edge of the button, not the hollow center where it seems it ought to.

It looks like at some point the squeezer was put in the wrong way.

Thanks for the information Uzhiel88 and the photograph too. I am going to have a play with the casing to see what I can do.
