Is this made entirely of metal? Any photos? I love the finish.

Hi

I got this off the Mont Blanc website:

Cartridge fountain pen, rhodium-plated 14 K gold nib, barrel and cap made of bright blue lacquer on a metal guilloche, Montblanc floating star in transparent cap top, highly polished platinum-plated clip and fittings

I have a picture from the local south african distributor but it takes ages to load onto the message.

Hi all,

I also read that on the MB site. I'd like to hear from someone who has used the the Cool Blue model. Photos are gladly welcomed. Again, I really like the finish/color!

We just got this Pen into my store a few days ago. I dont have a camera with me otherwise I would send some photos along. The new "Cool Blue" Starwalker is an interesting pen. Mostly because it is a pen by Montblanc that ISNT BLACK. While this may not mean anything to most people it should be noted here that about 95% of the pens made by Montblanc are black. The only real exceptions to the rule so far have been the burgandy 146 and special / limited edition pieces. But back to the new Starwalker, the blue certainly is a striking color. The weight of the pen is very similar too the rubber/steel version of the same line. The finish on the pen is a "Laquered Wave Guilloche" and has an almost liquid quality to the finish. As near as I can tell the body of the pen is composed of steel that has been engraved with the pattern than coated with a new "Precious Laquer" (I have no clue what makes it "precious"). List price on the pen is $400 for the BP/RB and the fountain runs about $520. This makes it a new high end tier of the Starwalker line. The 14K nib on the FPN is a bit stiff in a Med/Fine but writes well enough for a Montblanc and is the same as the nibs used in the other Starwalker lines.

Over all I must admit it is an attractive pen. Certainly something I didnt expect Montblanc to come out with. Montblanc collecters should try to pick one up soon, apparently the first batch to hit the states isnt that big and there wont be another shipment of them untill Feb 08. If you dont like MB to begin with than I doubt this pen will bring you over too the dark side. However it is something different that should be fun for alot of people a bold statement to put in your pocket. I doubt ill pick one up myself (waiting for the Visconti black diamond later this month) but do your self a favor and atleast take a peak at this next time you are at your local dealer. Im sure it wont be too long untill someone picks it up and can write about it as a day to day pen.

This pen looks great - I much prefer it to the candy stick Parker 'True Blue' that is being fussed about now, but the Starwalker is cartridge only, which puts me off so I doubt I'll buy it. Certainly not at $520, that's for sure.

I have seen and held this pen in my own two hands - The blue finish on this pen is the most incredible that I have seen on almost any pen (no need to take shots at the True Blue either). Trust me, I own a lot of blue pens and I have looked at a lot of Blue pens. Pictures do not justify the depth and variety of blue that you see by holding the pen and turning it in the light. Amazing.

The MB retail price is way too high. I think I saw the fountain pen available from a reputable ebay source for a much more reasonable $300-$350. If I had the free cash right now, it would be used to buy this pen.

I am now getting very interested!! Do let us know how to get hold of this pen at a good price. The roller/fineliner looks nice too.

I keep looking and when I pull a trigger on a deal, I will let you know and where. Likewise, I would ask any else to do the same. Thanks.

I looked at one at a local MB Boutique last week. It's a very beautiful dark blue color. In bright light, you can really see the waves of the guilloche but it's understated in a MontBlanc kind of way. I'm not a Starwalker fan but this one has me interested.

Shame that Pam doesn't deal in MB!

Does anyone know the durability of the lacquer? Is it a more durable coating than the resin used on most MB pens?

I'd like to purchase the RB version, but I'd really like to see some feedback on its wearing characteristics. I'd probably use the pen every day if I purchased it.

I have a Dupont perspective 2000 with precious laquer, and the paperwork went on to describe it as a Natural, not synthesized, laquer from China that is hand rubbed. This leaves as many questions as it answers, I think I will look into it. By the way, I saw the blue Starwalker and it is beautiful. I have the rubber grid Fineliner, so obviously I like the style, but seeing the blue in person was mesmerizing. The only reason I didn't go into hawk to buy one is the Visconti Van Gogh FP, also in blue, that I was there to buy. It was more realistic as far as my budget goes right now. Still, even if you are not the biggest Montblanc fan if you get a chance look at this pen in person. It really is the most beautiful blue finish I have ever seen.

Well I checked it out at the Mont Blanc store yesterday. My Gawd the city of Troy has some high class malls. Way out of my price range - but I digress. It's a nice pen, heavier than its resin counterparts; the guilloche is simplistic but nice. It retails for $440 for the rollerball and $540ish for the FP.

I can get it from an authorized retailer for $350 so I'm going to go for it soon. Man, I haven't been this impatient for something in many years.

I must say that the whole idea of a blue MB is something of a surprise.

However it really could be a groundbreaking moment for the guys in Hamburg!

I really like the fine liner, as I don't really like the modern nibs on the StarWalker range.

You should all pop into a store and see "Cool Blue" in the flesh!!
