I have to ask a pronunciation question, I feel like I should know this but am not sure. This is one of those situations where I have never heard the word pronounced- I have only read it.
Reminds me of the Lamy posts.

I pronounce the "S" - Viss - Konty. That's how I hear the US distributor say it.

But that doesn't make it correct. wink.gif

I don't think it is. I went to Italy recently and an Italian guy showed me lots of Viscontis, and if I remember correctly, he didn't omit the s.

A man with the title of Viscount would leave the "s" silent,so i can understand the reasoning.Maybe someone fluent in italian can elaborate.

'sc' in Italian sounds the same as 'sk' in English (e.g. skate). So as far as I'm aware, Italians would pronounce the 's'.

Having bought my Kaleido from the Visconti shop in Florence, I can confirm that the above is the correct pronunciation.
Silvano was a wonderful salesman and I even got to meet his wonderful wife while I was there.

Thanks everyone, I will pronounce the S.

I believe handlebar is correct Viscount is "vi-count" but Visconti is "viskonty".
However you pronounce it I like to say it like "wow, nice pen!" - but then some people think me a little strange when it comes to my pens...

Just to add up to the info here, I would like to point out that "Visconti" is a popular surname in Italy, coming from the family that ruled Milan in the middle age.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visconti

If you have the chance to visit Milan, you'll find out that one of the two symbols of the city is the "Sforzesco Castle" where "Sforza" is the family originated from Visconti that succeded them in the dinasty.

p.s. Susanna, great job! Go Valentino! thumbup.gif
