I'm not counting, but more than 100. All of the standard Noodler's except a couple, and all the PR's except a couple. I don't have a bottle of Noodler's I regret buying, and only a couple of PR's do I regret. I've got about half the Diamine's, and about half of those I regret. One Herbin and one regret.
Last night this woman was over here and, damn, I thought I had the ink kind of covered up so she couldn't see it, but damn if she didn't go up under my writing table to reach for something and damn if she didn't see it, and damn if I wasn't busted cold with all that ink. She wanted to know why I had all that ink. I didn't have much of an explanation. I was busted. What could I say? She definitely thought it was weird.
Thing is, she didn't see but about half of it.

Only six, but cut me a break, I got my first non-cartridge pen in June. But I must have 150-200 cartridges around here. Didn't get into bottle fillers until I got my first piston pen, a Lamy 2000. Loved it, so I bought a Pelikan m605, loved it, so am about to buy a Pelikan m805. And thus my ink collection grows...

Not at home, so can't count. Adding up the ones I can remember (I'm sure there are more), I reckon 31 colours in bottles, plus a few doubles, and 7 colours in carts of various shapes.
I've gone from being the guy who hates blue ink, to blue being the most represented, followed by browns, purples and blacks.

I have been on an eBay buying spree and loaded up on some vintage inks. So far, all have been clear, not moldy, and work well. My favorite of the vintage inks is Skrip washable purple. It is a great color with great flow.
I am using Superchrome in a Hero pen now. It works well, looks nice, and if it destroys the pen I'm only out a couple of bucks.

University of Pittsburgh has bottles of Sheaffer and Parker ink in their bookstores. I'm working there temporarily this week and bought a bottle of Sheaffer Blue-Black today. I was working at the time

so i didn't get to look at the pens they had closely. I have a feeling I will be buying more before I'm done with the job.
Is Parker Quink Blue or Blue-Black any good? They also have almost all colors of Sheaffer Ink.
And to list my inks:
1. Sheaffer Skrip Blue-Black
2. Sheaffer Skrip Gold (2 bottles)
3. Noodler's Aircorp Blue-Black
4. Noodler's Green Marine
5. Noodler's Red-Black
6. PR Fiesta Red
7. Mont Blanc Bordeaux
8. Waterman Florida Blue
9. Waterman Black
10. Parker Quink Black
I have samples of Noodler's Nightshade, Apache Sunset, Green Marine, and Walnut
I also have a Sheaffer mini bottle (Sheaffer sample) of old Kings Gold.
I don't like yellow ink. The 2 bottles of yellow I bought for $3 each thinking I could use it for mixing. The Kings Gold was given to me by a professor.

I have never tried the Ruby but the Mocha is a nice ink. I've used two bottles of Sapphire so far and have my third one open, I'm just hoping I can make the rest of it last for the rest of my lifetime! I picked up a dozen bottles from a vendor in Hong Kong (ictop) two years ago (6 for $150 and 6 for $102) and another 4 bottles last year from a fellow in Greece (kphil) for $65. I noticed that Sam at Pendemonium had a bottle for sale the other day. I love it, I use it every day in my Pelikan Sovereign Blue Stripe 400.

Only 5 bottles for me, but maybe 4 varieties of carts as well. I like buying ink, but I try to buy ink I've done research on and am reasonably sure I will use often. I probably use blue the most, although I've used 3 or 4 kinds recently between bottles and carts.
A recent job change has also meant I hardly use a pen at all during business hours
I did end up with some vintage Superchrome as well, but obviously we can't use that...

I still think I have too many since I only use 2-3 at a time or so. Then again, I've limited myself to blacks, blue-blacks, and blues. How boring, I know!!
We won't talk about the army of Peartree pens ink sample bottles and FPN vials I have that surround my ink bottles.
rroossinck
Aug 25 2007, 05:16 AM
I think I've backed down to about 20 different varieties. I'm trying to cut back, though. I'm more of a mainstay kind of guy. Kara's settled on Lamy/Montblanc Blue, and I think I'm in the process of duking it out between the Lamy/Montblanc, Pelikan Royal Blue, and Waterman Florida Blue for my mainstays. I'd love to see something like an American Blue that dries quickly enough for me to use it, but alas, I suffer from the plight of a ham-fisted southpaw. My hand covers so much real estate that the ink doesn't even stand a fighting chance of drying before introducing itself to my hand.
But back to the subject at hand...a few blues, a couple of browns, a couple of blacks and greens, and a red or two thrown in for good measure. I don't think I have anything that's really out there as far as color goes. Levenger Fireball is about as loud and mouthy as I get when it comes to ink.
That's a really cool ink color, BTW.

Busted? It's not like you were doing anything wrong. Why not show her the rest of the ink and tell her about your hobby? She may then think it is hyper weird instead of just weird... until you write her a nice letter or card with one of those inks.

Well, that woman may have thought your ink collection was odd, but it looks like I am the weird one around here. I only have four bottles of ink right now - Noodler's Legal Lapis and Luxury Blue, Mont Blanc Blue-Black and Waterman South Seas Blue.
It's not like I was doing anything wrong? I didn't say "wrong". I said "weird". And the plain fact is that most people out there in the world think it's weird for somebody to have over 50 bottles of ink hidden under his desk. She didn't see the other 50 or 60 or 70 or 80 that I have in this cabinet.
But yeah, she thought it was weird. She had this puzzled look on her face, and asked me, "Why do you have all this ink?" Damn, what could I say. I sure wasn't gonna say, "That ain't even half of it. Come in here and lemme show you the rest."
This was only the second time she's been over at my house. After some woman knows you for awhile--or after she knows me for awhile, she knows I'm a little weird, and finding 100+ bottles of ink or something like that around here is no big deal. But I haven't known this one for long at all.
Now I've got to find some place to hide that ink that's in the cabinet, because I know she's probably gonna open that cabinet sometime just to see what's in there.
And Pendragon, you need to get some more ink. The inks you have are hardly worth mentioning. I'll recommend 5 more:
Noodler's Black
Noodler's Blue-Black
PR American Blue
PR Sherwood
Noodler's Ottoman Rose
You can't go wrong with those.
