I just bought a Private Reserve Ink mixing kit and was wandering if anyone has any good recipes for inks that I already own. They are:

Noodlers: Sequoia Green, Gruene Cactus, Firefly, Apache Sunset, Widow Maker, Navajo Turquoise
Private Reserves: Copper Burst, Spearment, Gray Flannel, DC Supershow Blue
Waterman: Black, Purple
Aurora: Black
Lamy: Blue/Black

Navajo turquoise has such nice pigment in it. I find it great for mixing. You can explore the violet spectrum by mixing a bit with Apache sunset.

I'd avoid mixing PR or Nooders with Waterman. Waterman has a low pH and will cause the pH neutral Noodlers and PR to precipitate.

Has this precipition been verified? Mixing acids with pH neutral water doesn't cause precipitation so why would mixing acidic ink with pH neutral ink cause precipitation?

Great idea! I normally perform a search before posting a question. Don't know why I didn't do that this time?

I'm writing from memory of what others have reported (one account here). I know there is a debate between whether it's important to avoid acidic inks or not (I do avoid them, but not out of concern for the pen, but for the paper), but I think I'm on more solid ground about avoiding mixing inks of very different pH. Testing though is better than generalizing. wink.gif

The only inks whose pH I'm unsure about that I use anyway are Diamine's inks and Namiki blue (which is really growing on me).
