Well, I've gotten my hard rubber hopes up again! Not my fault this time, though. This pen was listed as hard rubber. I already have a Sr. BHR set. I was hoping this pen could go with my RHR pencil, but it arrived to day and what did I find?...nice, shiny permanite! (arrgghhh!) The only hard rubber is the top of the cap.

Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful pen. My question for you, my learned pen-lovers...is this permanite pen worth what I paid? It has some clip/trim brassing, but the nib is good and the plastic is in very good shape. I was happy to pay the $200+ for this in RHR, but is this, in your opinion, a decent price for an orange permanite Duo Sr?

$200 is below current retail for a truly excellent and restored orange celluloid DF Sr.

How clean is cap-band on this one?

In one picture you can see a line of brassing around it. Also, although it s not threatening to fall out and not rattling around, it is loose enough to rotate around the cap when touched.

Besides doing the usual restoration work, Ron Zorn can swage that capband for you. Brassing does impact value. Depends on severity. Think you didn't get hurt, but probably no super-bargain either.

I'd tend to agree with David, not a bargain but I don't think you overpaid by any stretch. One thing to look for with RHR pens is the imprint on many of them is larger then that on the plastic pens. If you note on your BHR you should find a larger imprint on it. Now they did make late model rubber pens with same imprint you would find on an early plastic model but these are far less common.
If you are still unsure about the imprints try a few of the main websites, they should have a blown-up picture of an imprint on a HR pen or I could post one of mine, (I also own a BHR Sr), their great pens!

Thanks for the input!

Even though it's not what you were looking for it's a very nice pen. I think you paid a bit much, I paid WAY less for my Duofold but yet again it's a junior sized one, streamline, and discoloured jade.
