Full Version: A Duofold to use with Moleskins

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a Duofold to use with Moleskin notebooks. I already have a M nib but find that a bit to fat for small writing. I can make up my mind on F or XF for the job. I would like the nib to be as fine as possible without being scratchy.

Is the XF a smooth writer or will I have to go for the F?
Is there a distinct difference in the nib sizes?
Does anybody used doufolds with moleskins- what nib, how does it perform?

Presumably, you're talking about a modern here? If so, I can't offer much help. However, if you're considering a vintage, I've had reasonable success with an XF that wrote a semi-flex line.

My Duofold Pinstripe with F nib writes more like M. Certainly not as "fine" as in my other pens.
I would recommend getting at least EF.
(note: my personal preferences are towards F and EF that are on the "fine" side of the F and EF, so my opinions surely ARE biased happyberet.gif ).

Did you consider going to a pen shop and trying difrferent nibs yourself?
It can save you both stress and money with getting either too bold (that may be the case with a modern Duofold) or too fine nib.

I have not been able to locate a shop that stocks anything other that M nibs. FPs are unfortunatly specialish items now and the only shops that stock FPs are not specialists.

Hello,

i have a Duofold Senior and a Duofold Maxima from the 1950s made in England and they are fantastic pens to use. One is Medium and the other is Fine and they both perform wonderfully with the Moleskine notebook but also with every other type of paper i have used them on
