Hello

I have what I think is a 1960's dark matt blue touchdown pen.

It has a 14k nib which is inlaid and a white dot on the pen cap clip.

To fill up you have to unscrew the very top of the pen and suck the ink up.

Can anyone tell me more about this pen?

Is it worth anything? I paid about £10 roughly 10 years ago.

Also I'm not sure if I'm filling it properly as the ink doesn't seem to last very long - is the pen not working properly?

Apologies for lots of questions but I'm interested to know more and whether worth repairing (if not working)

Thanks thumbup.gif

A picture would sure help!
Bunches of pictures would help even more.....

Just about any Sheaffer that unscrews at the end for filling will take in ink in the down-stroke, opposite to a syringe. I think most of them will draw a tiny little bit during the set-up, but it's not that healthy for them, and if they're working properly, theyll puke almost all of it out when the plunger goes home.

Yes, pictures. Very helpful. Is there a little thin rod under the end-cap or a metal tube almost as wide as the pen. This will also help with sorting out type.

Sounds like a Sheaffer Imperial IV to me, but a photo would greatly help. It also sounds like the filling system could use a revamp - quite easy, actually. You'll need a new sac and a new o-ring for the TD mechanism. Even if you've never replaced a sac before, it's not hard to do. Back to your pen, check out Jim's (PenHero's) excellent article on the Early Imperials at http://penhero.com/PenGallery/Sheaffer/She...erialsEarly.htm
