Full Version: Who else is a doodler?

I'm off of work today and figured that I would post a few of my most recent doodles. Anybody else out there just like to draw absolutely nothing?! I'm not talking about professionals, just people of my caliber, ie, like dictionary.com says of "doodlers" - 2. to waste (time) in aimless or foolish activity.

One person's doodle is another person's art. In other words, I really like your so-called doodles.
Celeste
Gosh, my doodles are dorky bunnies and geometric shapes. Nuttin' I'd put out for mankind to see. Yours are super cool and much more complex then mine.

Ditto that. Wow!

Here's something I wrote in the margin of one of my journals amongst some swirling "f"s and looping circles.

wacbzz,

You are looking in the wrong part of the dictionary. These are not just doodles. And your caliber would shame Big Bertha.

Gather some of these images into a portfolio and hie thee to an art gallery!

Love your "doodles." Please post more!

You guys are waaaaaaay too kind.

I just started working on an image with some circles...I'll try to post a photo later. thumbup.gif

In the first photo, I was trying to draw something that distantly resembles the so far uncompleted Burj Dubai. The second picture I started when my wife and I had to make the tough decision to terminate her pregnancy. We were going to name him Edan and in that doodle are a couple of things relating to Edan as well as the words to the Dead Can Dance song Black Sun. The fourth one is based on a geometric shape in the second doodle and with the last one, I was trying to make one of those images where you focus into the picture and it appears to jump out at you...don't try it though - it didn't work!

I told you those were not "just doodles"... looks like my view is supported by our fellow FPNers. I may have a career in art! happyberet.gif

Like I said earlier... truly amazing work!!

I love your doodles! If my scanner were working I'd post mine. Although my little circles and figure 8's are not nearly as impressive. tongue.gif

Beautiful!

I'll post some from back in the office on Monday

Hey, these could almost fit in my haiku thread wink.gif

I agree that "doodles" doesn't do justice to the very skilled and masterful scribbles above lticaptd.gif thumbup.gif

I agree with Lloyd, my doodles tend to be scribbles when I get bored during meetings, these are rather closer to 'works of art', maybe I should try and exercise my talent (what little I have) next time I am bored.

Except for one, all are in a Moleskine Sketchbook - 5x8 or so. One is on a regular 8.5x11 sheet of HP copy paper. All are done with a Pel 250 F nib and a Parker 51 F (or maybe XF?) and Noodlers bulletproof black - in case the book somehow ends up in a pool of water somewhere/sometime down the line.

My parents have been visiting this weekend so I haven't been able to finish this new doodle that I am working on, but here is a preview. When finished, it will be a double page in the book...

Viseguy
Yes, awesome! What pen and ink do you use? (Whoops! Should've read before I wrote!)

I think doodling is what the hand and eyes create when the brain isn't looking. Your doodles are the "Poodle's Noodles" (I made that up because the "Cat's Pajamas" didn't quite work. thumbup.gif

I have a friend who has a new boss who has asked them all to stop doodling during her meetings because it distracts her. How awful is that??!! I wonder if she'd be more distracted by loud snoring sounds.

I can't imagine how that would be policed. Is the boss planning to have everyone turn in meeting notes to check? smile.gif

I Like them! I think the column on the left is ink DNA, and the lower center one is a fabulous paisley amoeba. clap1.gif

Wow, Wacbzz and Alex - your doodles are impressive and oh so geometrically intense. Wacbzz, thats cool that you consistently work on a doodle. Your mind goes to interesting places and I agree that some sort of gallery or something might enjoy displaying them (that, or an online gallery would be cool too).

I usually "doodle" in my notebook when I'm waiting around somewhere, but they usually end up being... I dunno what, sort of like drawings, but really bad? I should scan them, actually. Maybe I'll go do that in a bit.

Diatoms! You must have incredibly good eyesight! And a wonderfully adept doodling hand...

here, scanned two of them really quickly. Just realize one of them must've smeared when I closed the notebook, hehe didn't give it enough time to dry. Also, my rotten-awful-print-handwriting is revealed at last!! These were in my lined little Moleskine... the black ink one is my Pelikan m150 with Noodler's BPBlack, and the other is my Lamy Al-star with Noodler's Marine Green.

These look sweet biggrin.gif I like the whole doodle thing because it shows where one's mind can go or be taken when the ink pen is in hand. Plus, since this isn't for money, all the pressure is off to produce something perfect thumbup.gif

Isn't Noodler's just a great ink? I seem to be permantly stuck on black, but I do have a bottle of habanero that is just begging to be used...

BTW...just a few more things, and my next picture will be finished. *Turns on Windows Media Player 11 (<not a plug BTW!) and cranks some Acid Mothers Temple...* I should have it posted by 7.

I do love Noodler's more than any other ink but I'm doing my best to branch out a bit... lately I've been playing with my now 2nd favorite ink manufacturer, J. Herbin and their line of vibrant colors - Poussiere de Lune (a marvelous dark purple/burgundy with a slightly brown overtone), though I haven't done any doodling with it, is probably my favorite of their line.

Anyway, Noodler's black in has been my "main ink" for a while... but you gotta vary it up sometimes - go for that Habanero, I'm sure it'll be awesome. Ooh, or black and habanero in the same doodle - niiiiice.

Ok-some photos of my new doodle, complete shot and some up close smile.gif

Ever since Pressurewave suggested that I do my doodles in both colors, it has been hard for me to go back to just black. The red, btw, is really Noodler's habanero that I go back over twice to get the red color. If you look closely at the second picture of my last doodle (round dots), you can see a lighter orange color around the edges of the dots. That is the actual color Habanero. I started using the haberano too quickly around the black ink and it kind of bled, so I had to go back over the habanero, and that made it a darker red - which I like, though I hate having to go over everything twice!

Please post your angry amoebas lticaptd.gif That's what this thread is about...just doodles. Besides, people get bored looking simply at one persons work all the time unsure.gif

Incidentially, I was reading this auto Dealer magazine tonight during dinner and came across an article about hiring the right salespeople in a car dealership. The gist of the article was about right brained people vs left brained people. Two of the things listed for right brained people? Perfers rock music (Whoo hoo - I love the Velvet Underground) and Enjoys making up own drawings and images. So are we right brained, those who endlessly doodle, drawing crazy things that when finished, seem to make sense to our brains??

Just finished this...

That is sweet! Is that all one piece? It looks like lined paper where you maybe went down one side? I especially like the blocks that are on top of one another where you have 3 of them colored in. Anything else?
