Full Version: Estie inner cap

I have an Estie J that has the wrong size cylinder in the base of the cap (the inner cap ); the hole is too small to accomodate any renew nibs. The pen came with a smaller knock-off nib that fits but writes poorly. How do I remove this part and where do I find a replacement? I'd like to outfit the pen with a better nib.

I've already posted this in the Estie forum but have yet to receive a reply.

I have a warped esterbrook J coming in the mail. I have to verify but I plan on taking the jewel. If so the inner cap is yours. But this will probably arrive next week...

Altough, I don't have an inner cap puller. Do you know how to remove an inner cap?

Thanks

Unfortunately, I don't have an inner cap puller. For advice, I have Dubiel's book and, hopefully, the experience of those in this forum.

Have a look on Brian Anderson's site - he describes the process for replacing a jewel - which requires removing the inner cap. I have successfully removed the cap by threading in a proper sized tap and pulling it out. Not sure but I'm pretty sure a 5/16th inch tap is correct.

Cloud, you can pry / drill out the broken jewel, and should be able to push out the inner cap through the rivet in the top of the cap.

That's pretty much all the tricks I know of for getting them out... other than cutting the cap apart...
