Thought this might be of interest to the group. Out of my budget but, it sure is pretty.

OW! This makes me sad because it is a pen I wont have for a long time. A Red Giant... That is "rare"
Phthalo
Wow, that is pretty notable! So what was the reason for not imprinting these RHR pens? They were never intended to be sold to the public?
Corby
I haven't a clue, so hopefully someone else will chime in. I have seen a black rounded top, clipless, slip cap Giant with no markings.

It might not be that the pen was never imprinted. The Parker Black (and Red) Giants imprint's wore away very fast. The imprint was faint at the Parker plant. Thats why a full imprinted Giant brings a premium. Either way, the pen should fetch a crazy price; its in pretty good conditon. Its an Early one, too.

Why would we believe these in general were not imprinted?

I have little Parker knowledge, and was simply asking a question (and hoping to learn more).

Sorry for the RHR generalization - I meant to ask what are the reasons (if any) that a pen may not carry a makers imprint?

Just a quick note, that the GREAT AND TERRIBLE OVERLORD OF ALL THINGS PEN RELATED Stephen Overbury has decreed that this pen in particular is FAKE.

According to the Omniscient one the pen was created on a lathe recently and has a vintage nib swapped in.

This VERY IMPORTANT notice was handed down, of course, on Pentrace. Interesting to note that stephenoverbury will not post here for a fair and honest discussion. I am pretty sure that some people who post here and (can)not on PT might find the discussion of the heritage of this pen interesting.

What a freak, Overbury that is. It takes all kinds I guess.

Cheers,
Sean

Now the seller is claiming that there is a faint imprint, after having it examined with a professional and a jewlers loup. Who knows if it is real or not. After Overbury's last obnoxious thread on PT I would take what he says with a bit of salt.

Sorry I didn't save my original question to the seller. Basically, I asked that If I should win the pen will they guarantee it to be an original genuine etc Parker etc...

Here's her answer. Good Luck deciphering this one...

"We hope for a good price for this pen. We do guarantee is to be as advertised.
I do believe the dating to the pen is the early 1900's. We agree to that fact also.
We are guaranteeing that is is a genuine OLD pen. I don't blame you for being
cautious...so would I. If not original we will be shocked and so will others.
I am a very honest seller and have been selling for 12 years. You many check
the feedback also on my main account which is heebeeshebee."

Oh I have no intention of bidding for this thing. I'll save up and buy one from a reputable dealer. I'll pay more but,

I ain't buyin a pig in a poke!

If this is the same auction (Im pretty sure it is).. there is a debate that is ongoing over on the yellow board regarding the pen being a fake. This one is definitely interesting.

Okay. I have to ask what "RHR" means. A web search brings up Rabbis for Human Rights, and I think that's not quite it. Thanks for your patience.

Yeah its the same pen. Overbury will never post here about it, might have to actually support his arguments.

Interesting to know that he posted his big old FAKE posting about this pen, and has not showed back up to answer on PT either.

My guess is you will see his name in the bidders list by the end of the auction.

Seems like a lot of work to fake that, especially when you have to find an old Parker #12 nib. I wonder what this will sell for???

I'm not advocating for this seller, as I don't know him/her, but here's my two cents worth...

Their feedback is actually excellent. I also contacted the seller with a couple of questions. I was initially concerned about possibly bidding because they changed their listing to say they were no longer accepting Paypal, but only direct wire transfer. I contacted them about both this and whether or not they'd guarantee the pen as authentic. Here was my question:

Dear blackmollydolly,

I'm interested in bidding on this pen. Do you guarantee it is authentic? If proven otherwise, will you issue a refund?

I'm a bit concerned as to why you disallowed Paypal. I have a confirmed account, meaning there are no fees to you. Is Paypal still not accepted?

I found his/her response quite appropriate, and if I hadn't just visited the D.C. Pen show (more on this in a later post) where I not only saw more than I expected, but bought more than I expected, I'd be bidding on this pen. Normally, I'd keep this response to myself to cut down on the competition wink.gif but as my budget's now blown for a bit, here is the response that I received:

Yes, we guarantee this pen to be authentic! I don't know if I have replied
to this message or not, if I have please excuse the second reply.

I went to direct deposit on the advise of other people involved in the sale and
purchase of these high dollar pens. In the U.S. you are pretty safe, but there
are big problems dealing with out of US buyers. I am only being cautious to
protect my seller. I will accept Pay Pay (I do still have to pay 3.9% to Pay Pal)
from U.S. buyers with good credit.

If you have further inquiries, please write or call 402-274-3762. Thanks much.

Pat

Despite them being unaware that a confirmed member pays from a savings account an not on a credit card and, therefore, there will be no fees, I did find their answer acceptable. Notice they are even still taking Paypal, albeit from U.S. accounts only. I don't know why or how it can be abused, but I have heard of some overseas (to the US) Paypal transfers having problems, and maybe this is why they did this.

Well, hope this helps interested parties and believe me, I'm jealous of whoever wins this pen!

Cheers,
Devin

I dont know if any of you saw this but the seller wrote this about Steve:

On Aug-11-07 at 15:52:26 PDT, seller added the following information:
This will be my final addition to the description of this pen. I was informed today, of all of the wonderful and nasty comments on PENTRACE made about me and the facts about this pen. As for Mr. Overburg, do not worry, he will be blocked from bidding on this pen. Perhaps, he thought he could buy it cheap. I don't know nor do I care. As for all of those that supported me and my reputation I Thank You so much. Yes, I am from Nebraska, corn fed and all of that. But, one thing for sure. I do not lie! Mr. Overbury's comments regarding what I said are untrue. His exaggerations are pitiful. His first letter to me was full of insults and constant reference to my very poor pictures. I replied to his message with facts. This wonderful old pen is guaranteed to be OLD. Of course, if you find it not true your money will be refunded, but we are confident this is unlikely to occur. I have been selling on ebay for 12 years. My first account and still operating account was under heebeeshebee. Why not check out my feedback there too.

Been watching this with interest, pen far too expensive for me even if I were interested in buying. How can the buyer actually tell if it is a genuine one or a clever fake?

The seller seems genuine enough, but that may not mean the pen is as he obviously acquired it from somewhere else. I still think it's a pity that on high value items the ID of bidders is blocked, as sometimes seeing who is bidding can give some comfort to us less knowledgable collectors.

Devin,
If the seller has a paypal account that accepts credit cards (a merchant account) they will pay the fee whether the buyer transfers from their savings account or pays by credit card... it does not matter. So the seller was correct in his statement to you...

Thanks, Tom. I was not aware of this. I have an account that accepts credit cards when I sell stuff, and when I just sold a few watches a few months back, I did not have to pay the fee for cash transactions. I had two watches in particular that sold for well over $1,000 each, and one member paid with his credit card (I got the fee) and another did not (no fee). Was I just lucky (maybe they were having a promotion, or something) or do I have a different type of account and I'm still not aware of something?

BTW, Tom - I really missed you at the show. I had a great time and truly enjoyed meeting the people that I've been talking to the last few months. Maybe I can make the trek to Hagerstown in the coming days. I'll PM you. My wife leave Tuesday with the kids for her parent's house. I'm following a few days later, so I'll be a bachelor for a few days. If you have the time, and I can make it, maybe I can get out your way.

Tom - I just verified that I have a "Premier" and not a "Merchant" account. I'm no expert at Paypay, but if I was allowed to accept a credit card payment, what advantage would it be to have a merchant account?

Since this conversation has gone off topic (and there is always the possibility that I am wrong), feel free to PM me or just wait until I call you again to discuss.

Best,
Devin

Well that Big Red Eyedropper sold for over five grand. I have no insight but the seller seems sincere. What a very nice pen. Too bad I'm too cheap to go for the high stakes pens.
