I was given a vacumatic from my dad and I cleaned the pen from the thousand years of ink stains. This is the type where the pumping mechanism at the back is made up of plastic and not metal like the earlier ones. The nib and the pumping system is intacked but for some strange reason the pen doesn't fill. When I filled the barrel with water liek an eyedropper it would just leak out of the back end of the pen where the plunger is if I flipped it upright and when the nib is pointed down, the water just dripped out of the nib. What's the problem with my pen?

Thanks
Brad

It needs the filler unit restored... a very common problem with Vacumatics
Since you are in Canada, I would recommend you contact SMG here on FPN to do the work.... he does fine work and you won't have to go through the hassle of cross border postage and customs charges...

Of course the other alternative is a drive to Nassua NH or Syracuse NY and dropping the pen off at Richard Binder or Ron Zorn if you don't want to mail it... thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

A quick filler unit repair and you will be in Vac heaven! Speaking of Vacs, it's been forever since I've used one. You have inspired me to dig out my '46. Golden Pearl and ink it up for tomorrow!

Thanks Griz, very kind of you.

Waterman, do give me a shout. I will be able to get it up and running for you. I am in Waterloo, not far down the road.

I will even extend an invite to our Pen breakfast on the 18th in Cambridge. We have about 12-16 people who regularly show up to discuss and trade here and there.

Cheers,
Sean
