I noticed the nib was loose against the feed in a BCHR so I pulled on it and it came off. I put it back in but it's not secure. How can I secure it?
Thanks for any tips/advice...

Pep,
Sorry to say, but probably the best idea is to remove the section, drive out the feed and re-install the nib & feed together. Forcing the nib back in is asking for it ("it" being a bent or cracked nib or a finger impaled by a nib). If there was any issue making the nib loose, the restorer should be able to solve it. Additionally, if the sac's age is unknown, have it replaced at the same time.

There are a lot of reasons for a loose nib, and/or a nib that doesn't set tight against the feed.

You will find loose nibs on many of the older HR pens - Watermans in particular. Either the rubber compresses and cold flows, or the section expands so things are loose, or maybe they just weren't ever that tight. Sometimes they can be made snug again without burying the nib in the section, sometimes it's just nearly impossible unless you know the tricks.

You may also find that the contour of the nib has changed, kicking the nib up away from the feed, and needs to be reset - it requires a nib block and some special skills to get it right. You may also need to heat the feed to get it back against the nib.

Da Book can give you some guidance, as can the manufacturers repair manuals.

Thanks, Ron Z. I keep planning to buy Da Book.
