I recently recieved an oversize Sheaffer balance pen from a seller on Ebay and was immediately stunned by its looks. In contacting the seller, he related he uses one of several different polishes on his pens- Simichrome, Wenol and Brillianize. In researching the brands, I found them all to be metal polishes and am wondering if anyone else has experiance with them. I was particularly interested if there was any harm that could be done to the pen if using them. Thanks for your time.

I can't respond directly to your question, but I have been using a different combination of metal polishes on my plastic pens -- Flitz, followed by Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish (then Mother's California Gold carnauba wax) -- and the results have been great. No harm done, and the polishes worked faster and better than the dedicated pen polishes I bought from Tryphon (Sorry, Giovanni!! Otherwise I'm still a customer!) The pens were made of celluloid, polystyrene, and other materials as well (including acetate, I think).

I've been using Simichrome, and another metal polish, Flitz, on my pens for years with no problems. The trick is to be gentle and use just a little. They can be hell on imprints if you go too hard. I don't use them on metal pen parts though. I jewels cloth is all I use for that. As I said, I've never had any problems. Flitz is great for gently polishing out minute usage scratches. I have no knowledge of Wenol or Brillianize.
