An Enzo Varini FP fell into my hands some time ago (ok, ok, I took it from my husband), which is the only way I'd possess one because I had never heard of them before.

I have aspirations for pens that I won't be able to afford for some time, and so I sort of regarded this one as a "that'll do for now" pen, but now that I've been using it for a while, I like it. While I was out scoping my dream pens, I saw a few EVs and noticed they were cheaper than others, but still presented in nice boxes.

It's nice looking (a little slim for my tastes). It writes pleasingly smoothly, I would expect that smoothness from a more expensive brand. (I have my share of scratchy FPs). The nib says "Iridium Point" on it and has a bit of scrollwork design.

From what little I could find about the brand online, it seems to be a designer for Pilot. Is this really, then, a Pilot pen? I don't think I'd actually go out and buy another EV anytime soon, but I'm trying to understand what I've got.

I bought one of these from speerbob. At first, the tines would click frequently, with lots of skipping. Speerbob instructed me to push them away from the feed a tad, and it did the trick. The skipping continued, however — very frustrating as it is the smoothest pen in my collection, and I wanted it to be flawless.

Today, the ink [Diamine Monaco Red] ran out. Flushed the Enzo out and filled it with Noodler’s Walnut. What do you know — it has never skipped since clap1.gif

I have to say, though — the Enzo Varini did Monaco Red justice like no other. Utterly sumptuous to the point of being erotic. I will order a couple more Enzos and see if the problem persists.

Easily one of the best FP bargains [and I love the ’80s styling! biggrin.gif ].

While my original post here was months ago, I can say that my EV has remained in regular rotation, and I still get a whole lot of enjoyment from it. I prefer the weight and thickness of my Phileas, but the EV easily wins the "Best Nib on a Low-End Pen" award. In fact, the nib is second only to my Pelikan M400 White Tortoise -- not bad considering the difference in prices.

alexanderino, the Monaco Red sounds delicious. I have mostly used Waterman Purple with my EV, and it's nice and juicy in all pens, but especially this one.

I hope there are wider and heavier EVs out there -- I'm going to look for one on my next trip to Europe.
